My grandfather passed away last year, leaving behind more than twenty volumes of journals, written half in Urdu and half in English, in which he recorded the entirety of his adult life: his years at AMU, his love for reading, his faith, his children, and the inevitability (1/12)

Do read this achingly beautiful essay, a memoir of coming of age as a Muslim in a country that lost its way
I teared up often while reading of the daily humiliations that are now so routine
I hope one day we are able to rebuild an India that Asad deserves

Aristotle says that arguing with random people is a waste of time because the average person doesn't know how to argue and therefore will not help you become better at it (let alone help you clarify a point). A nice thought to post on the "argue with random people" app.

He was in Denmark, and his time at IIT Bombay might have been for an internship or a student exchange. Had he continued on that path, by now he could easily have been a millionaire, living in a multimillion-dollar home somewhere in San Francisco, enjoying the life that so many of us dream of.
But you know what made him leave all of that behind and choose a Master's at JNU? His love for the people. His people. The people of India. His countrymen.
He radicalised himself from a point where no one from the comfort would look back once, not even me!

Disenfranchisement is real - Jean Dreze and Yogendra Yadav respond to Surjit Bhalla and set the facts straight on SIR.
The process of crafting is not fun at all. Hobbying is, in fact, never fun. It’s annoying and it goes wrong all the time and it makes you want to pull out your hair but it distracts you from The Big Sad™ for two hours per day and that’s kind of lovely.

People don’t take into account that Umar-Sharjeel-Kanhaiya et al took on this Govt. when it was at its strongest (2 yrs. into power & the entire country drunk on faux nationalism).
Not taking anything away from Neha, Dipke etc. but they fight a stale Govt. losing trust rapidly.

a buddhist monk, a hijabi girl, a bihari student, a queer person, a delhi local, a gurudwara prabandhak, an old grandpa, a young journalist...nothing worth saving in this country is a monolith, and that's true for its democracy as well.
Continuous whistling by police to kill their own audio?
A monk tries to save a young man from detention, without much success. @tarunzero @thewire_in

It would take *one million years* for 100 workers working non-stop at the minimum wage to earn as much as Adani already has - Jean Dreze explains.
