‘Slow Down and Stop’ never made the album, but this strange 1973 Stones instrumental offers a fascinating glimpse into the loose, spontaneous It’s Only Rock’n Roll sessions. rollingstonesdata.com/unrele…

youtu.be/eXV4WyQMHFM?si=Z3wj…
Jimmy Page all smiles in a pink tee and patterned scarf, beer bottle in hand. Born in Heston, Middlesex, on January 9, 1944, Page was playing guitar on other people's records long before most people knew his name. By the mid '60s he was one of the busiest session guitarists in Britain, and in 1966 he joined the Yardbirds. When the Yardbirds broke up in 1968, he founded Led Zeppelin with Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Bonham, and as guitarist and producer he steered them through twelve years that changed hard rock for good. After Zeppelin ended in 1980 he went on to The Firm, Coverdale and Page, and Page and Plant. 🎈 Jimmy Page is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, with the Yardbirds and with Led Zeppelin. Did you ever see him play live? 🎈

Jimmy Page and Van Morrison sharing a big laugh backstage, two old friends whose history goes all the way back to 1964. That year Page was one of London's busiest session guitarists, and he took part in the sessions for Them's recording of Baby, Please Don't Go, with a young Van Morrison singing out front. Exactly what Page played is still debated, but Van has said he played rhythm guitar on one track and doubled a bass riff on another. Them's version turned the old blues into a rock standard. From there their roads split. Page joined the Yardbirds in 1966 and formed Led Zeppelin in 1968. Van left Them, went solo, and gave the world Brown Eyed Girl in 1967 and Astral Weeks in 1968. The friendship lasted. In September 2025 Page flew to Belfast to celebrate Van's 80th birthday and said he likes to catch up with Van whenever he passes through London. 🎈 Page was still four years away from forming Led Zeppelin when he first worked with Van. Which of these two have you seen live? 🎈

October 24, 1964 — The Kinks Crash the American Charts When “You Really Got Me” broke into the American Top 40 on October 24, the British Invasion gained one of its rawest, most influential sounds. Dave Davies famously created that snarling guitar tone by slashing the speaker cone of his amplifier with a razor blade, helping produce a distorted sound that was startling for its time. The riff was simple, aggressive, and unforgettable—and it helped lay groundwork for hard rock and punk.
