Hi everyone!! In light of Ao3 going down for 2-4 weeks (I’m devastated.) I’d like to make a statement about the reposting of my writing if anyone has them downloaded 1) DO NOT reupload my work on ANY PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE site! This means gDrive, wattpad, tumblr, etc etc 1/2

When AO3 is back up, I better not see anyone saying "ugh xyz STILL hasnt updated?? You had 4 whole weeks! 😭" about any fic or author or else the new server farm will be built from your bones

wow. 80% of fandom do not deserve fics. at all. not even an ounce of respect for the creators of the very thing you enjoy.

They’d never say the same about fanartists btw reposting artworks is literal art theft but duh, you can upload fics on a rando’s Google Drive and not even give proper credit cause “it’s an archive!!!!!!!!!!”

feeling very :/ about this whole Google drive/archive situation, of course it’s the authors expressing discomfort and the readers going “ermmm but it’s an archive, you should expect this, why do you want VALIDATION”

It’s funny to see the double standard applied to fanfic writers. Reposting and sharing fanfic works is somehow acceptable and even enforced right now, whereas reposting someone’s artwork is akin to burning them at the stake. Make it make sense… it’s still someone’s creation

Visual art gets liked, shared, and it garners loads of appreciative comments, but then fanfic writers act too entitled and “petit borgeouis” if they expect people to show their love and appreciation on ao3. “You’re not a published author” nor is your fav fanartist Caravaggio

my take on the ao3 google drive drama: preservation and redistribution are two different things. downloading fic for personal use is fine; uploading other people’s work permission to your own archive and distributing the link to thousands of people is a different thing. (1/2)
