Irish placenames were manglicised during the English & British colonial project. The Irish versions often tell us about the history, lore or geographic features of a place.
Are there any manglicised placenames you find to be particularly bad?

I'm also here in my beautiful Mexico. Excited that a top tier NLP conference is happening here for the 1st time. DM me if you're interested in opportunities at @mbzuai. I'm looking for someone to collaborate with me on things related to NLP for peer review.

#MBZUAI’s faculty, researchers, and students are presenting their academic research with 19 accepted papers at the 2024 Annual Conference of the North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics (@naaclmeeting), which is held in Mexico from June 16 to 22, 2024.
The papers cover various topics, including reasoning, factuality, confidence estimation and calibration, cultural awareness, and psychometrics of LLMs, as well as various aspects of dialogue, speech, machine translation, and multilingualism.
This achievement demonstrates our dedication to advancing natural language processing (NLP) research and highlights the growth of our specialized NLP department.

LLMs struggle to detect mansplaining if not explicitly asked, but maybe not so surprising as many men also struggle to detect it? LLMs really do reflect the world (online and offline)
Do LLMs understand the subtle language involved in mansplaining situations? 🤔
Well, not really... LLMs can usually detect mansplaining if explicitly asked, but not otherwise.
👩🔬Work led by @comuni_carla
📜Corpus with 886 mansplaining stories

Can anyone help me with the online system for #lreccoling2024 online access? This is all I see - no link to SIGUL Workshop live-streaming.
"Jump to live session" takes me nowhere..

Just checking the accepted papers at @LrecColing, I was wondering which languages were in the spotlight. Among the 1544 accepted papers, 323 (21%) mention at least one language name in their title. Notably, 17 languages (incl. sign ones) appear >=5 times in the titles:
