Iowa’s governor-elect Rob Sand has a surprising résumé: before entering politics, he worked as a high-fashion model, walking runways in Milan and Paris for brands including Prada, Number (N)ine, and Giuliano Fujiwara.
The 44-year-old Democrat modeled in the early 2000s to help pay for college, even appearing in Prada’s Spring 2003 menswear show.

acting like half of Iowa is the driftless area is objectively stupid. it’s like 10% of the state at best. most of that blue is rural farmland — I know because I grew up there.
Most of the rural parts of the Midwest are still leaning to the right. Except the Driftless area, which is the part the glaciers didn't flatten. This area is rural and ovewhelmingly white just like the praire areas yet does not vote the same way.
They are now entirely represented by Democrats with the exception of Illinois's weird 16th district where the voters from central Illinois outnumber them.
Does anyone have an explanation for why this happens?

One thing I wished people understood better was that the resistance to ICE in MN was not just that one enormous freezing march, though that did absolutely rule.
It was a relentless and 24/7 campaign of both shrewd civil disobedience and mass volunteering
