This bullshit project from Herts County Council isn’t about connectivity: it’s about cost cutting. This crap needs to be challenged. “Trackless trams” are not trams: they’re BUSES. Bouncing bendy buses stuck halfway in traffic; and take away tracks & you take away fixed links.
…this is a bus.

There's a lot of chatter about mobile noise on trains, and I occasionally see comment that things were quieter in the past. The 1960s wants a word. Then, transistor radios were considered a plague, to the extent that British Railway's Western Region produced this poster.
🤳 Reels blaring from the seat behind? 📢 A video call on speaker that the whole carriage didn't ask to join? 'Loudcasting' on public transport has become a daily annoyance for many passengers. Share the carriage, not the noise: 👉 bit.ly/47y8czM

Having a train that takes you directly to the airport is genuinely one of the top 10 things a city can offer. No expensive taxis, no sitting in traffic, no begging someone to drop you off. Just get on the train and arrive at the airport. Every major city should have this.

How do you enforce a rule that's based around a made up slur with no basis in reality? This is evil.

GBR HQ should absolutely not be 20 minutes from a railway station. Why wasn’t there anyone in the room making this point from the start? It totally plays into the ‘modern Britain is dysfunctional’ narrative. This is basic stuff.

President Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian fuel amidst Putin’s ongoing and brutal attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine makes no sense and is a betrayal of the legacy and leadership of the late Senator Lindsey Graham. While Ukraine fights for its survival, Putin’s war machine continues to prosecute his terrorist war on civilian populations and innocent Ukrainians are dying every day. Now, Instead of implementing the tough sanctions Lindsey Graham fought to his last breath to enact, President Trump has announced the United States is lifting sanctions on Russian energy, fueling the Putin’s war machine. As I saw firsthand in Ukraine last month, Putin is losing this war. Ukraine has fought the Russian military to a standstill and reinvented warfare with drones taking the fight into the heart of Russia. America should not be throwing a lifeline to Putin’s war machine. Now is the time to stand strong against Russian aggression as we did during the first Trump administration. Putin doesn’t want peace. Putin wants Ukraine. I have no doubt that if Putin overruns Ukraine, it will only be a matter of time until Russia’s military crosses a border that our troops will have to deal with him. America is the Leader of the Free World. For our National Security, for the security of our Allies in Europe including Ukraine, President Trump should rescind this deal immediately and return to the strong policies of our four years in the White House; impose harsh sanctions on any nation purchasing Russian energy and work with our allies to ensure Ukraine has the military support it needs to repel and defeat this Russian invasion once and for all. Man today would have been the perfect time to announce a program of rolling electrification.

Great thread from ASLEF — well worth a read! Discontinuous electrification is a false economy, and battery trains are increasingly being seen as a cheaper, quick-fix solution. We are storing up problems for the future, IMO.
The recent Department for Transport post on battery-electric trains, coupled with the recent order for TPE, is a worrying indicator as to where the Rolling Stock and Infrastructure Strategy is headed. Battery-electric trains aren't a viable solution for freight. 🧵1/8

1) These trains are 120m long, on a route that has had an expensive 200m platform extension programme. 2) They run at 110mph on a route that has had an expensive 125mph line-improvement programme. Creating fewer seats & less capacity than should be possible (2/3)

In my view, if European countries, including ours, had proper growth strategies that embraced the vast economic opportunities of the clean energy transition, cut absurdly high welfare bills & encouraged wealth creation by small businesses, people would soon stop electing facists.

It is one of the great ironies of modern political discourse that those who are the most hostile to migrants are also the biggest deniers of climate science and opponents of urgent action to cut emissions. It is arguably the stupidest Venn diagram in history.
Climate change is already forcing whole communities to leave their homes: 8 million people had to do so in India and Bangladesh in 2024 alone. This will escalate as global heating accelerates - migration will dwarf today’s numbers. theconversation.com/climate-…

Astounded that we must even turn this into a culture war or row. Lots of wildfires, lots of risks in this dry heat. The Fire Service asks the government to warn people not to have BBQs or light fire pits, you know, to stop your house burning down. How is this even controversial.
🚨 UPDATE: Andy Burnham explains why the Government issued an emergency alert to all phones in England and Wales "The request came directly from Fire and Rescue Services... We can all help them. Please take the emergency alert seriously and follow the guidance in place"
