As a #gamedev, I think the entire #GamePass discussion is overblown. It's less about economics and more about a cultural shift. Many of us grew up buying games, but today's market is different. Subscription services are simply another payment model. The "Game Pass devalues games" argument assumes a direct relationship that isn't that simple. A Game Pass player isn't automatically a lost sale, just as one pirated copy was never automatically one lost sale. By the same logic, you could argue that Steam sales or F2P games also "devalue" games. I think many people still underestimate how different business models change player behavior and revenue streams.

Juego A: ingresa $100, cuesta $20. Beneficio: $80. Juego B: ingresa $120, cuesta $50. Beneficio: $70.

Budget totalmente distintos.

This comparison is fundamentally flawed. Mass Effect was developed with much smaller budgets than modern AAA games like Horizon. Selling more copies doesn't automatically mean higher profitability.
Replying to @GenePark
mass effect was a hit series for their time. but horizon zero dawn has sold more copies than the entire mass effect trilogy. that should put things n in to perspective of how high the hill was for the next game to hit. that’s why i was doubtful. it’s a tough case to make today.

The latest Need for Speed sold even worse than Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Literally NO mention of racing games anywhere in that EA article. Racing games is dead over there at EA. Damn we're cooked.

BREAKING: The Mass Effect video game franchise may have come to an end with the shocking demise of BioWare, but IGN can exclusively reveal that its future on the small screen remains possible. Sources inside Prime Video have confirmed that the Mass Effect television series remains in development at Amazon MGM Studios. bit.ly/4zPa7w0

Just a reminder: there's a whole other side of the gaming industry that's far more exciting, with sustainable business models, reasonable budgets, and genuine creativity. The AAA industry is slowly destroying itself, but gaming has a future beyond AAA. And that looks bright.
Gaming just feels really sad right now. Layoffs every other week. Told you must accept GenAI slop or you won't survive. If a game doesn't have 400k concurrent players it's a "dead game" I'm just tired. This isn't how I remember gaming, it used to feel more magical, yeah...

30 years of history. A studio that helped define an entire genre. And EA couldn't even give BioWare a proper farewell. Just a footnote in a corporate announcement about “larger opportunities.” At least show some fucking respect for the legacy you're burying.
Just looking at my physical PC game collection. The left side is basically a graveyard of franchises I grew up loving. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Dead Space, Medal of Honor, Titanfall... EA killed every franchise I loved. I'm not even angry anymore. Just sad. Thanks, EA.
