Memorization has an unfairly negative reputation. I recently spent a few hours memorizing the names of all the countries in the world and it's such a clear improvement in how well I can understand and reason about other topics. Memorization is scaffolding for more complex ideas

Patrick Stewart was, like many of the greatest British artists of the 20th Century, a working class boy who became a world-class artist thanks to a public arts education made possible by Post War social democracy. He never forgot it.
I can't sleep after this shit... Claude Code just found 12,154 photos of my face on the old Android I used for 8 years. I never took a single one of them.
The front camera was firing almost every time I picked the phone up. In bed, on the train, in the car, or when I just grabbed it to check the time.
They were real camera frames sitting in a hidden folder, each one with a timestamp and a location. None of them were in the Gallery or in Recently Deleted.
I plugged the phone into my laptop, turned on ADB and told Claude Code to look for front-camera files that weren't in my photos. It pulled a folder inside Android/data that belonged to a flashlight app I installed in 2019 and completely forgot about. 12,154 files.
I started scrolling. Almost all of it was from the last 15 months. Then I saw a file created 2 seconds ago, while I was still looking at the folder. The phone kept taking photos of me as I was reading this.
On Android 8 any app with camera permission can shoot in the background, and you get no green dot or any other warning when it does. That flashlight app had camera and location access from day one.
I uninstalled it, took camera access away from everything that doesn't need it and cleared the folder. How many of these photos already went somewhere else, I don't know.
If you want to check yours, plug it in, turn on USB debugging and ask Claude Code to find front-camera files outside your Gallery and show which apps used the camera and when.

The team behind ‘AMERICAN DAD’ have made a statement on the tragic passing of Sir Patrick Stewart.
“We at American Dad! have so much gratitude and love for Patrick Stewart. He said how happy he was to do American Dad! because he was so rarely asked to do comedy, which is insane, as his ability to get the laugh was uncanny.
Thank you, Sir, for sharing your joyful spirit, inspiring voice, and willingness to be ridiculous. You turned Avery Bullock, Deputy Director of the CIA, into someone the world loved and couldn't get enough of. We will miss you.”

Patrick Stewart says his biggest regret is the things he never said to the people he loved and not being vulnerable sooner.
“Being brave, being open, being sensitive to other people, tuning into them, becomes more and more important to me.”
He regrets the things he never got to say to his family.
“I wish I could go back, There are things I would like to say to my parents and my brothers that I never said. That makes me very, very sad.”
He’s learned the power of vulnerability.
“Being vulnerable is the primary objective in my life now, with those I care about.”

Patriarchy existed to STOP OTHER MEN.
You really think men invented patriarchy to hold YOU down? You are too weak, too fragile, too irrelevant for men to waste invention on you.
Men invented patriarchy to protect their lands, food, money, resources, women and children FROM MEN.
500 years ago women didn't know what patriarchy was because it was SURVIVAL.
No police. No 911. No guns. No cell phones. If a rival tribe wanted you, they killed your men, raped you, took your land, took your food, and married you off to their sons or kept you as maids, servants, and sex slaves. That was history.
Patriarchy said: TOUCH HER AND YOU DIE. She belongs to this man, this family, this tribe. That was not oppression. That was a DEATH THREAT to other men to keep you safe.
Pregnancy = 9 months useless. Breastfeeding mother can't run, can't fight, baby cries and brings wolves.
Who hunted? MEN.
Who fought bears? MEN.
Who fought other men? MEN.
Who built houses in snow? MEN.
Who died in wars? 90% MEN.
If men left women alone to be "independent" in 1500, you would have gone EXTINCT in one winter. No food. No fire. No protection.
You are alive today because of patriarchy.
Modern luxury - AC, Uber Eats, iPhone, birth control, police made yall RETARDED and ungrateful. You think world was always safe.
You think animals don't hunt humans for food?
Who stopped all these? Patriarchy. Men who built walls, laws, armies, civilization so you can sit on TikTok with fake eyelashes and say "patriachy oppress me."
You are not oppressed. You are PROTECTED and too dumb to know it.
Without patriarchy, you wouldn't be CEOs. You'd be extinct or a sex slave to the strongest man in your own village that’s been conquered by the enemy.
Patriarchy is not why you are suffering. Patriarchy is why you are ALIVE to complain.

This seems like a great time to reshare my favourite Sir Patrick Stewart performance, ‘What has the ECHR ever done for us?’ It’s just perfect in every possible way … including the ending 😂😂😂 RIP.

The reason we look up to Picard is that he embodies the best human qualities from various centuries, most notably the Enlightenment, catapulted into the 24th century, where these qualities can eventually be be put use for the greater benefit of everyone.
By contrast, his personal backstory is that of a typical 20th century's hero, which keeps him relatable to us: from a conservative family, rebelled against his father, a little uneasy around kids, very ambitious, but had to learn discipline and responsibility along the way.

Jean-Luc Picard remains the single most compelling vision of progressive politics I am familiar with — secular, rational, compassionate, egalitarian; a believer in progress & abundance but also duty, hard work, and a constant battle for self-improvement and improving the world.
