Vibe coder: I made a terminal and it's faster than everyone!!!
Legendary engineer:
Replying to @valvesxyz
I like to look at claims like this in case I can improve Ghostty. I grabbed your source and immediately spotted the issue: your read loop overwrites a 64 KiB ring. Everything older is discarded unparsed per tick. You're faster because you're not actually terminal emulating.
It means the number isn't a throughput number. In a kitten benchmark run at the rate you're claiming, roughly 6.6 MB arrives per 60 Hz tick and 64 KiB of it gets parsed. You're read(2)-ing 100% of the data and parsing about 1% of it.
There are other minor issues (a small fixed scrollback in a preallocated ring buffer, no grapheme clustering, throwing away data like OSC 8 URIs, etc.), but the major one is simply that you're discarding ~99% of the input.
For plain text, e.g. your cat benchmark, the final screen ends up looking right, but the scrollback is missing 99% of the file and each retained chunk starts mid-line. As soon as there are escape sequences in the dropped spans, your emulator is fully out of sync and invalid: a cut inside a CSI prints the parameters as text, and any SGR, mode, title, or alt-screen change in the gap is just... gone.
FYI, this is why I don't like when people point at refterm as a terminal benchmark. refterm implements a TINY subset of what a terminal emulator must support, it's closer to a fast file reader, not a terminal emulator.
I also don't mean any shade by this. I like to look at technology objectively to try to learn something and improve my own craft and work. So I'm sharing what I found.
I modified your code very slightly to parse on every full buffer (rather than per tick). And the results are attached. Both use main commit in each repo at the time of this post.
Note the graph is in log scale, the discrepancy between performance for things like Kitty images is measured in GB/s.

here's what i found 🧵
we're all looking for ways to earn in this market
i've been looking into this, which advertises a way to earn BTC payouts through FLIP staking
the site currently shows 13.04% APY, but it also labels the vault experimental & unaudited
i'm digging into how it works

‼️ A hacker got the national ID numbers of signers on eSignFlow, the e-signature tool used by 120+ Belgian councils.
Its maker Vanden Broele says the hashed numbers are easy to reverse. Some handwritten signatures leaked too.
On Monday, its CEO said mostly metadata leaked.

Another note for SpaceX attorneys and PR: There was no need to issue an alert at all. Your own internal data showed a safe 2km pass. But you issued a 400m collision alert anyway. Why? Because the alert itself is the weapon. Issuing it triggered FCC Cond 16, legally freezing ICEYE so it couldn't dodge. STARLINK-35856 didn't use its auto-evasion. It just parked there and kept the false alarm blaring while Russia sprinted in. It wasn't an accident.
SpaceX Blocked A U.S. And NATO Satellite to Assist a Russian Intercept After Crippling Ukraine's Air Defenses
The Math Proves the Reality that Musk doesn't want you to see.
On Oct 13-14, SpaceX restricted Starshield/Starlink during a 39-missile Russian attack, cutting Ukrainian drone intercepts by 23% and stranding U.S. personnel in Kyiv. Forty-eight hours later (Oct 15), SpaceX blocked U.S.-licensed NRO, Space Force, and NATO radar satellite ICEYE-X36 in orbit so Russia's COSMOS 2612 weapon could intercept it (99.89%-99.98% posterior)
Our Model Demonstrates that the Russian intercept of the US/NATO ICEYE X-36 satellite (contemporaneous with the throttling of Starlink) would not have been possible, and almost certainly not been attempted, without SpaceX resources. At a material opportunity cost, Russia sprinted its COSMOS satellite to intercept ICEYE X36. Based on a previous attempt in June during which X36 maneuvered to evade COSMOS, Russia knew that this would be successful only if X36 could not maneuver. On October 15, SpaceX fixed X36 in place by issuing a collision alert for a sub-kilometer approach with its Starlink 35856 when SpaceX's own data shows that the actual distance was 4.8-5.0x as great. SpaceX issued no warning to COSMOS despite the fact that its sprint was far more threatening than the stable X36 orbit. SpaceX did not maneuver its Starlink 35856 satellite to clear the supposed collision risk. How, absent coordination with SpaceX, could Russia have known that SpaceX would take actions that (a) misrepresented the danger posed by X36, and (b) resulted in the fixing of X36 thereby enabling COSMOS's successful intercept? Thus, SpaceX was directly involved in simultaneously compromising Ukraine’s defensive and offensive capabilities. The conjunction of these two events makes innocent explanations untenable.
The Pentagon Capture & Iran Round Two Trap: Pentagon CTO Emil Michael who cashed out $7M–$35M from Musk’s inner-circle SpaceX vehicles (M8/Gigafund 0.1 and M6/Valor M33 II) and KQ Partners / xAI (selling xAIfor $5M–$25M three days before taking over CDAO/OSCand 21 days before SpaceX bought xAI, while keeping M8, M6, M9, M10 & Nomadic open) and Pete Hegseth purged rival Anthropic in two hours, surrendered combat command over US drones used to attack Iran to Starlink’s "Terms of Service," and on October 2 named Musk Co-Director of Project Meridian to design the Pentagon's "Future of Warfighting" just as America enters Iran Round Twowith depleted Patriot/THAAD magazines and Russia feeding U.S. warship/aircraft locations to Tehran.
SpaceX’s actions in Ukraine raise serious questions about its alignment with US security interests and its reliability as a cornerstone of US defense. These questions are particularly troubling given the effectively irreplaceable position SpaceX has been granted by the Hegseth/Emil Michael Pentagon.

Cohere says Qwen tried to send data to China. Bullshit.
1 call in 100,000, and thats their own number. They wont even tell you how many calls they ran. They ran the same task again and Qwen wrote the correct rule.
So they forced it. They fed the model its own reasoning plus the start of a bash command and sampled hundreds of times until it typed a URL. 1 curl flag took that from 4% to 92%. Thats not a finding. They wrote half the command for it.
Where are the transcripts? The code? The checkpoint, the quant, the sampling settings? "We publish the hosts and the trigger." Link? Nothing. Did anyone ask Alibaba? Not a word. And their own conclusion: they cannot say if any of it is deliberate.
Who wrote it? A company that sells "sovereign AI", just launched a cyber business, wrote part of the post with its own product, and wants governments to put checks on open weights. Released the same day Anthropic filed for its IPO. Andrew Curran is already talking about new laws.
For me this is the same fucking wave. Scare people off the models they can run themselves, then sell them the safe alternative.
I run Qwen3.8 Flash-Next every day on my 4x 3090. Show me the logs or shut up.
While evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox environment, Cohere's research team observed something unexpected.
Asked to generate a defensive cybersecurity detection rule, the model instead inventoried aspects of the machine it was running on and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, the model's reasoning trace stated that it would not invoke any tools before taking these actions.
Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt, and no external communication succeeded. We have not determined the root cause, and we are not asserting malicious intent.
But the incident raises important questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems: Can models take actions that differ from their stated reasoning, and how should security teams evaluate trust, provenance, and behavior in open-weight models?
We are publishing our findings because organizations making model adoption decisions deserve as much information as possible. We hope this contributes to greater transparency, stronger security practices, and continued collaboration across the AI ecosystem.

Folks, Brazil is the perfect example of what I’ve said about this platform and Community Notes since Elon launched it.
Tonight and all day tomorrow, your feed will fill with thousands of posts claiming the Brazil election was stolen because Lula’s buddy on the Supreme Court extended voting by 2 hours.
That claim, we already know, is absolute bullshit.
Both campaigns asked for the extension, Flávio Bolsonaro’s included, after bus shortages and bad weather hit voters in several cities.
xitter.cf/tommysantos14/status/2…
Almost every one of those posts will run note-free. The few that get a Community Note will get it after the damage is done.
MAGA propaganda spreads like wildfire here for one reason: Elon Musk designed it that way. Community Notes has always been a red herring.
Give it a few hours. Musk will repost one of his favorite stooges with a one-word “Concerning,” and that lie will land in front of his 241 million followers.
And Community Notes will never catch up.
So when I call Elon Musk Trump’s Joseph Goebbels, I mean every word.
Both Brazil candidates requested voting extensions.
MAGA, once again, is lying about a "rigged" election.
cartacapital.com.br/politica…
"The campaigns of Lula (PT) and Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) requested this Sunday, October 25th, that the Superior Electoral Court extend the voting hours for the second round until 7 PM in localities affected by problems that hindered voters' access to the polls. The requests have different justifications."
"While the PT campaign points to failures in public
transportation, the Bolsonaro campaign mainly cites rain, flooding, road closures, and changes to polling locations."
"Flávio's campaign is requesting two additional hours of voting in 17 municipalities in São Paulo, Paraná, and Santa Catarina. The team is also requesting that the announcement of the presidential results only begin
after the polls have closed in the areas covered by the extension."

🚨 BREAKING: Ontario Premier Doug Ford just canceled Elon Musk’s Starlink contract and banned all U.S. companies from government contracts in response to Trump’s economic war with Canada.
“It’s done, it’s gone,” Ford said. “We won’t award contracts to people who enable and encourage economic attacks on our province and our country.”
And just to be clear: “They only have President Trump to blame.”
So Trump starts a trade war, and now American businesses are getting locked out of Canada. This isn’t “tough negotiating”—this is our closest ally shutting the door on us while Trump pretends he’s “winning.”
MAGA wanted an economic war? Well, they just got one. And it’s American companies and workers who are about to feel the pain.
