Pocketpair still considers itself an indie studio, even after Palworld reached 40 million players.
John Buckley, the studio’s Head of Publishing and Communications, says the key isn’t how big a studio is or how much money it makes, but how much creative freedom it has.
“We consider ourselves indie because we have zero outside investment or backing.”
He also argues that having a publisher or investor doesn’t automatically make a studio less indie. What really matters is who makes the creative decisions.
“If a studio has genuine creative freedom, then I think it’s fair to consider them independent.”
Nintendo can’t catch a break. First, the lawsuit they have against Palworld is ending next month and they failed to get rid of Palworld. Next, their hardware was jailbroken on October 22. Now, it was revealed that the Switch 2 is not the fastest selling console.

Wish more people would understand why Sony couldn’t make money from the PC platform while companies like Capcom have more than half their revenue coming from PC.
There are games on Steam that you actually can own. Also, we aren’t overpaying for the licenses because of Steam sales.

October 24: first ROMs dumped
October 25: ROM dumper publicly released for everyone
October 26: first Switch 2 game recomp (MK World) running on macOS

We expect within the next few days the emulator and recomp tools will be released publicly.
Progress is moving way faster than I expected. I didn’t expect it to be this fast. We might get that emulator sooner than we thought.
