🚨I have a new website and am open for work from journalism to copywriting to commercial content - previously covered everything from workplace law to drill music to literary scenes.🚨
You can see what I've been up to & what I'd be good at for you, here: dan-cave.com
My mum (retirement age) still works hard physical labour because the state pension doesn't pay enough (she privately rents) for her to live the hardly luxurious life she does lead. Her case (emotionally important to us as family) is surely one of many. Iceberg tip.
🚨 BREAKING: Andy Burnham is set to signal the end of the state pension triple lock in his conference speech tomorrow

State pension cut + landlordism = Wiley coyote skidding off the edge of that cliff that ended 500metred back.

Digital First has become the excuse for deliberate dismantling BBC Local Radio.
More clicks. More bite-sized content. Less journalism. Less local. Fewer experienced voices rooted in the communities they serve!!
Once that local knowledge & connection is gone, it won’t come back.

97.5% mortgages with sky high interest rates.
Definitely not a recipe for disaster lol.
Also will undo recent stagnation in house prices, will shoot them back up again.
Great work

NEW: BBC reducing the number of local specialist correspondent roles.
Instead, each BBC region going down to two dedicated, multi-platform correspondents (generalists, not specialists).
Will no doubt prompt concerns about reduced local knowledge and expertise. Story coming.
Ant is right. And Tuchel truly understands this, too. Indeed, Big Tommy really gets the English footballing id, love having him as manager.
🚨🗣️ Anthony Gordon: "Difference between playing football in England and Spain? We don't have that strength to control games like the Spanish do, it's not in us. I'm not sure it's something that can be taught."
"Now that I play in Spain, I can speak with an educated view, the way they keep the ball is different, much different than I have ever experienced playing in this country."
"I'm not sure we can ever get that, but we can definitely get better or maybe go the other way and play to our strengths which is to play physical, direct football and counter-attack. There's no perfect way to win a football match."
"We can't keep looking at other countries and trying to be like them. We are not them, we are English. We have our strengths which they do not have. So maybe we start playing to what we are good at."
I wrote about art, celebrity, Joe Lycett, Birmingham, and where a lack of criticality in our culture might get us for

Because if there’s one thing the internet needed, it’s more articles about Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
The BBC is supposed to be a cultural institution, delivering high quality, well-informed local coverage, beyond this narrow, metric-centred approach.
Hoping that creative media teaches literacy in media rather than being a pipeline to the casino career of hopingtobecomeaninfluencer.

UPDATE: BBC Sport cutting 41 jobs (5 new roles) and will focus on "most-read" stories on website using audience data.
Will cause concern for those who believe should have broader coverage of sport.
NEW: BBC to axe sports bulletins and tell staff they may have to reapply for jobs. Some cuts to staff numbers.

All power to the BBC Sport staff - the intellectual and cultural life of this country is being ripped like paper and cast to the wind.
Hope they can fight it ✊✊✊✊

Job market is indeed very competitive for younger people. Mostly has to do with rash of layoffs that occurred over last year. Recent grads now competing with downwardly mobile ppl like myself who have 9-10 years of experience. Not a fair competition ultimately.

Wayne Rooney as a teenager brought the very worst out of the English press. A cabal of public schoolboys that couldn’t wait to bully the working class lad who wasn’t media savvy. He has always been a very bright lad. It said far more about them than it ever did him.
Never disliked Wayne Rooney, never been particularly fond of him, but this @shattenstone piece made me actually love him theguardian.com/lifeandstyle…

any talk of cutting local commentaries is wrong. Ultimately, if the BBC isn't providing stuff like this what is it for?
