The biggest product wins usually come from making some aspect the product less dumb, rather than introducing some new clever thing
Rational optimism of the day
interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had
with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works

Excellent research from @HausAnalytics on YouTube’s ROI.
My take on why this gap exists: it is solely due to Google’s poor self-measurement. Advertisers spend less because the ROI looks bad even when it’s not, which suppresses demand, and therefore CPMs. The folks who measure ROI properly are the only beneficiaries.
This should be a P0 for YouTube to fix, but it’s been this way for years.
@growwithbamboo clients certainly benefitted from this arbitrage so I guess it’s not that sad. Thanks, big G!
This is all such prescient advice and very much aligns with my life.
I met my wife when we were 22 (now 37). We were both broke but very high potential.
The only thing I might change about our run together is having kids sooner because it's SUCH A TREAT. We could've had them sooner and still accrued all of the wins.

My thoughts on getting married young as someone who got married at 25 and is still very career driven
1. It is underratedly rewarding to find someone before you are successful. The number of times I have heard “series A then I’ll date” only to lead to “series B then I’ll date” six months later. I made a fraction of what I make now in an extremely IC position when I met Tyler and there is nothing better than knowing we got here together.
2. Two years ago, my husband went through and acquisition and joined NVIDIA. Half of the team had partners and or was married, the other half was single. We appreciate the fact we met pre-acq because there was never any question of whether someone is with you for the $$. Not that it would be a problem, but why have things spoil the relationship when it doesn’t need to.
3. Dating takes an absurd amount of time and emotional bandwidth and imagine if you just didn’t have to do that.
4. You can take a lot more risks with your career and personal life because you have another person to keep you emotionally and financially stable. If you take these big financial bets and they are successful then INCREDIBLE. If they are not successful, you will still be perfectly fine.
5. You pool your networks together and you know probably 50% more people (assuming you also have heavy overlap) and this is extremely helpful and makes me feel better when I stay at home on a Friday night 😅
6. In many ways the person you marry is an investment and the earlier you invest the better the outcomes! But more seriously, I optimized for a partner who I could grow a lot with in a very complimentary way. And this has worked out nicely.
