Jimmy Kimmel plays this incredible CNN clip. Brian Stelter: The administration is calling out Kimmel, trying to pressure ABC, but they're being careful not to explicitly demand that ABC punish him. Boris Sanchez: The president actually put out a note demanding that Jimmy Kimmel be fired by ABC.

The California Govs primary is huge and messy. Party boss is stepping in to narrow the field. Ranked choice voting would be a simple fix to this problem. It pairs well with their Top2 system and gets rid of spoilers.

Texas has a lot to tell us, but also @DwayneYancey does a great job of breaking down the backroom trade-offs Dems are making. At this point, it seems like it's less about Trump and more about giving their friends in the legislature a specific district.
With General Assembly Democrats deadlocked on maps, Texas results pose a question: Does Virginia really need to redistrict? cardinalnews.org/2026/02/04/…

If Florida had an undercount that was absolutely the fault of the DeSantis administration - which for months said it would play no role in the Census count, and then in Jan 2020, scrambled to do outreach with little preparation. Three months later, COVID. miamiherald.com/news/politic…

With the Texas redistricting plans, “gerrymandering” has entered the chat. But what does it mean, and how can it impact U.S. elections? @DaveDaley3 breaks it down.

The Redistricting Apocalypse: How Chief Justice Roberts Let All the Evil Spirits out of American Democracy, by @ajkeen open.substack.com/pub/keenon… @davedaley3 Who is to blame for the redistricting farce that many fear is breaking American democracy? There’s Trump, of course, and his gang of MAGA crazies. But according to David Daley, the author of Antidemocratic, Inside the Far Right’s 50-Year Plot to Control American Elections, the real culprit is anything but crazy. It’s John Roberts, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. In a devastating 2019 decision, Daley argued in a powerful New York Times essay this week, Roberts closed federal courts to partisan gerrymandering claims just as judges from both parties were successfully policing redistricting abuses. "It's like that moment in Ghostbusters where they turn off the containment packs," Daley explains. "All the evil spirits spill out." The result? Today, 398 of 435 House districts are non-competitive, and we're witnessing what Daley calls a "redistricting apocalypse" with no end in sight. And those evil spirits aren’t just on the far right, with Democratic hacks also benefitting from this out-of-control gerrymandering. What gets lost in all this, of course, is the bipartisan political center in both parties - thereby creating a political system increasingly out of touch with the kind of non-ideological voters (ie: most American citizens) whose interests John Roberts’ Supreme Court is supposed to protect.

Psyched about this episode. @davedaley3 is one of the best analysts of right wing election subversion out there. He goes big on Trump's effort to ban mail voting, the Texas gerrymandering scheme, and other ratfucking, connecting the dots. Don't miss this one. You'll learn a ton:
"What we are seeing is a real effort to militarize the nation ahead of 2026...in Detroit, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Philadelphia...there will be a full-on effort to intimidate and suppress Dem voters." On pod, @davedaley3 is brilliant on Trump/GOP ratfuckery: newrepublic.com/article/1992…
