Here's my problem with UTI pharmacy trials. The privileged people can afford to pay the pharmacist but are not the ones likely to die from antibiotic-resistant bugs. The rich(& pharmacists)get benefits & the poor wear the cost.Prescribing on algorithm should be out of scope for all

According to the @ama_media There are 38 388 GPs in Australia Over 26 weeks of the bulk billing incentive. 950 000 / 38 388 = 24.7 total consults. That means each GP has bulk billed on average less than 1 EXTRA consult a week. Less than 1. Given I do 150 consults a week. This has no impact on the other 149. But wait…. Let’s not forget urgent care centres comprised 250 000 of those consults. So really that’s 700 000 / 38 000 = 18 extra consult’s Stopped the slide? Not even 1 extra consult per week.
The @AlboMP @AustralianLabor Government’s $6.1 billion investment in Medicare in last year’s Budget has helped stop the slide in bulk billing. New figures out today show an increase in bulk billing rates in every state and territory #auspol #ausecon @Mark_Butler_MP

This is a great thread on the plight of GP from @GPswampwarrior The most recent changes to funding ‘triple BB incentives’ do not even correct for inflation in urban settings Too little, too late. Just remember, if you think experts are expensive, just wait until you try amateurs
As General Practice dies, I wanted to write a reflection as to why. It's not about the evidence. We know that General Practice is the cheapest and most effective part of the health system. Here is the evidence in mental health for patient satisfaction.

This fits with international research showing where a patient has been seeing same GP for >15 years, the probability of using out-of-hours services or A&E admission is reduced by 25–30%. (2/10) bjgp.org/content/72/715/e84

The Federal Government’s per-patient spending on general practice has fallen from $460 to $420 in one year, which an expert says reflects not just the bulk-billing crash but more patients not seeing a GP at all. ausdoc.com.au/news/govt-spen…

Medicare is part of and a poster child for the COST OF LIVING crises. Doctors / all health clinicians want to provide the same level of care to the vulnerable as to anyone else. But without indexation your tax funded insurance has not kept up with the costs of giving care.

Today's graph about General Practice showing how much a patient pays above the Medicare rebate over time. GPs have tried to keep this contribution as low as possible, even when medical costs rise. We've done our best. Time for Medicare to step up. aihw.gov.au/reports/health-w…
