“The country’s major superannuation funds would guarantee an annual income for millions of retirees under a confidential proposal from the Albanese government as it prepares for a flurry of withdrawals from the super system. While the pension pool has swelled to $4.1 trillion, the federal government and funds are increasingly assessing how to manage an inflection point when more money flows out of savings as a larger proportion of the population reaches retirement age and life expectancy grows. In preparation, Treasury officials have circulated proposed standards to superannuation funds and industry bodies that would enshrine so-called longevity protection. This tool would set a draw-down rate for retirees with more than $200,000 in their account and would be difficult to change even if a person wanted to do so.” ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• This was the plan all along!!!!!! Labor are drawing up plans to stop people drawing down their super in retirement. What about all the people who want to pay off their home loan? As I’ve pointed out many times previously, the percentage of people retiring with a mortgage has increased drastically since superannuation was introduced. This has meant that people have to pull out their superannuation to pay off their mortgage when they retire, putting them on the pension. In other words Superannuation is not doing what we were told it would do. It’s nothing more than a slush fund for Unions, Banks and the big end of town. Furthermore Treasury is now acknowledging that there will come a tipping point when withdrawals will exceed contributions creating a liquidity crunch that cause a financial crisis. I’ve been warning about this for years - Superannuation is a scam that was only ever designed to control and impoverish poor working people while empowering and enriching the big end of town. To think that the average person in Australia is considerably worse off than in the US is wild. It wasn’t always like this. And there’s no course correction in sight.

I do not stand with Ukraine. This war should have nothing to do with Australia. It’s another brother war, fueled by big business and banks. Over a million Ukrainians are dead, when peace could have been made two years ago. But warmongers like Dutton kept it going.
Australia stands proudly with President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people. The UK has provided stoic leadership, along with others, since the moment of Vladimir Putin’s barbaric invasion of Ukraine.

How can the Australian government think it’s OK that the average New South Welshman with a mortgage owes $1.8m to the bank of which $1m is interest. Country is absolutely cooked. They need to cut immigration immediately.

He’s not wrong, we’ve never had great media as far as I can remember and it’s only become worse to the point I’ve tuned out completely.

The world is healing 🙏
🚨 NEW: Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook will get rid of fact checkers and replace them with Community Notes similar to X. They will also: - Reduce restriction on discussing immigration and gender - Loosen their censorship criteria filters. - Start promoting political content on feeds again. - Move their trust and safety and content moderation teams from CA to Texas. - Work with Trump to push back on countries wanting to censor US citizens. It’s a new era. Zuck is now with the program.

Truly disgusting government overreach. Shameful step for Australia to go down this path, I hope doesn’t get passed.
TODAY: We're introducing our bill to make 16 years the minimum age for social media.

devtool SaaS moves data that belongs in your database into theirs this is pitched as a feature since it’s easy on day 0 on day 10 you realize you need to replicate some of that data for business logic on day 100 you realize you should store everything and use them minimally

You might also not expect this: I think realtime, offline first architecture is the only way I would build a new, non-indexed app if I was starting one today Once set up, it's the easiest to work in and automatically creates the best UX by paying the entire network cost at boot
Digging in to inertia a bit Laravel + inertia is probably the best "single developer" stack on the market right now for general cases

Yeah, there's a known trick in MySQL... select count(*) from myTable where 1 = 1

It's a long time ago (2001), but we started with MySQL for a custom built CMS and swapped it to Oracle after a year and a half. Just too many things not where they needed to be and our focus was app dev, not DB admin

Happy im not the only person who has to deal with this bullshit. Mine is completely random. But if I do hammer the DB with similar queries perf goes up a lot. I force index use in my queries that helps a lot. If someone took MySQL and used some AI to make it faster, it would do so well.

Worst DB I’ve ever used. Have hit similar problems and doesn’t have material views to help with performance of aggregated datasets 💀
Interesting learning about MySQL: it's not very smart. These queries are semantically the same (skip is a non-nullable boolean column with an index) yet the raw count takes several minutes while the weird second one runs in 1/4th of a second. Uhm... 🙃 SELECT(*), SELECT(1), SELECT(id) all take forever. Even though the primary id is indexed. Bizarre. Hope this helps someone struggling with this.
