I did something similar to this for the caustics in the CS2 water, cheap and effective chromatic aberration

Cities Skylines 2 is a good example of how unsuitable Unity's HDRP is for regular game development. You pay a very high base cost for all its features, it doesn't scale down to lower end hardware, and can't be scaled back for high framerates. I wouldn't recommend it for any game.

Unity leadership apologized today after uproar from devs 👏 gamedeveloper.com/culture/un…
Oh sorry - that one was a year ago when they weren’t “talking enough”. Now they’re not “listening enough” to developers. Cue the clown car noises. 🙄
My initial reactions to the Unity walk-back/new terms:
1. A 2.5% rev share that is not retroactive and self reported is not so insane but it’ll turn some existing companies off from using Unity.
2. Why is Marc Whitten the messenger?
3. The trust has been broken

My fear is that Unity is in such a hole that they won't even be able to walk back The Plan too much. They have something like 1.5b in cash and some other things, but at their current burn rate they are in big trouble in 2-3 years.

I think there's only one scenario left to "fix everything":
* The Runtime Fee system should be withdrawn,
* John Riccitiello should step down from Unity.
Otherwise, @unity won't be able to regain trust with developers.

Unity’s pricing changes is going to kill charity bundles. No developer is going to want to give thousands of keys to bundles raising money for charities if it means they will cross the threshold for being charged by unity.
Loved this era of mesh creation.
All the polygons were carefully considered and even though rngine lighting was primitive you could bake in nice details.

While I still have it fresh in my mind, I have collected some notes about some of the things that slow down Unity projects in the editor here: blog.s-schoener.com/2023-08-…
I hope it is of use to someone somewhere!
