We still need to lift for “armor building”, injury prevention and a host of other reasons but, I’m no longer sure how much effect conventional weight room strength has on speed past the beginner/intermediate level. @mboyle1959

Goals of all effective training programs: 1. Do no harm. 2. Reduce the risk of injury. 3. Optimize performance. Note the omission of “make up dumb stuff to post on social media” from these top three priorities.

The single worst thing you can do for overhead athletes is a quick shut down/ramp up. If you’re going to take time off, take a lot of time. Otherwise, just keep going at a lower intensity. This is especially problematic in the college baseball world.

If you always read the same books as everyone else, attend the same conferences, follow the same path, and adhere to the same standard advice, don’t be surprised when you end up not accomplishing anything unique or different. Think laterally & diversity your experiences.

Psychology limits motor learning...This means that a person must, first, want to learn, and, second, trust in the coach/process enabling them to do so. It doesn't matter how good your cue or drill is, if you don't have the person's belief and trust, you have nothing.
