Trump is not going to change who he is.
He won't become competent.
He won't stop lying, deflecting, being divisive, & shifting blame to others.
He won't become fit or presidential: theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…
Pundits, press & politicians who report otherwise aren't being responsible.

Throughout US history, Presidents have lied about poor health, from illness to incapacity:

Cleveland hid cancer.
Harding, FDR, & Ike hid heart disease.
JFK hid Addison's disease.
Wilson had a massive stroke, & hid it for 17 months.

In a post on his personal website, the 47th @POTUS claimed to the American people that he’d returned to Walter Reed Medical Center for a physical & “aced” another cognitive test, 6 weeks after the last one.
@realDonaldTrump claimed “few people in DC, could do so,” but this test is not a measure of IQ.
The @WhiteHouse medical unit has a full suite of tools. Escalating care suggests exigent need for advanced imaging or IV therapy, consistent with bruising on both of his hands.
At a rally, @potus Trump made another odd sound, days after a similar episode in South Carolina. newrepublic.com/post/216958/…

There’s what the account is posting & reposting — statements might be dictated or ghost written, but not amplification — & then there’s what it means about his mental state, including increased disinhibition.
When combined with his public sundowning, diminished fine motor skills, evident balance issues, & verbal incoherence, it’s a pattern of cognitive deterioration which could show the onset of dementia. His father had Alzheimer’s, & Trump is known to be afraid of it.
Repeated cognitive testing that Trump has disclosed suggests physicians are actively monitoring the President’s mental capacity, which goes official, quiet concern about his continued fitness to serve.
As with reporting on daily evidence of pathological narcissism, though, many outlets still aren’t covering this as a national security crisis & emergent civic emergency given how chaotic the news environment is & how litigious this president is.

The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

Asking career officers how they voted is not just wrong -- it violates the Hatch Act. Those doing it may be investigated by the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, fired, and/or fined. There is no statute of limitations -- so the next administration can go after them.
SCOOP: The State Dept has started asking career diplomats up for promotion if they voted for Trump in 16, 20, 24.
Federal law prohibits politically based hiring for career staff.

If any @StateDept officials are conducting an ideological purge of the foreign service as reported, they should be impeached & removed from office. Patriotism knows no party.

The State Department has asked some foreign service officials up for promotion who they voted for in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 presidential elections, raising concerns the agency is violating a federal law that bars politicized personnel decisions within the nonpartisan ranks.

Though @ElonMusk has cheapened the true meaning of treason, the @WSJ reports that he may have provided aid & comfort to an enemy of the USA (Russia) as it wages a hot war one an ally (Ukraine). constitution.congress.gov/br…

Hyperbolically calling politicians “traitors” for not passing a bill you favor may increase the risk of political violence.
Treason refers to when someone who owes allegiance to the USA wages war against us, or provides material aid or comfort to enemies of our union.
It refers to betraying our country by attempting to overthrow our government with violence, not a vote against a bill.
If you keep using this kind of rhetoric, you will be accountable for offline influence and harms.
Remember: many of Trump’s partisans believed his tweeted lies about a stolen election when they assaulted police officers on January 6.
If you make this existential, people will believe you.

My take: Putin gave up nothing by releasing a 74-year-old American held as a pawn for this type of moment. Putin is not a humanitarian, despite how Mr Witkoff addressed him. And whereas President Trump says he gave up nothing for Stephen Hubbard's release, you will hear all the experts correctly say that he did: busting his own sanctions for a diesel deal with Putin that could put $4 billion into his war chest; inviting Putin to the G20; and dumping Putin's victim, Ukraine, face down in the mud, as it tries to defend its sovereignty and its freedom. You’ve heard the historians call all this appeasement, going against America's own democratic values.

I’ll stipulate that Trump is an agent of Putin.
Go down the checklist.
1. Destroyed the Western alliance? Putin wanted that.
2. Threatened a NATO ally over Greenland? Putin wanted that.
3. Pulled out of the intermediate nuclear pact? Putin wanted that.
4. Withdrawing 25-40,000 troops from Western Europe while Russian bellicosity is rising? Putin wanted that.
5. Russian satellites giving coordinates to Iranians killing our soldiers, and his response is “they kill us, we kill them”? What American president says that?
I think he’s been compromised.
The election of Donald Trump may be the greatest foreign policy success in post-Czarist Russian history.
