You can always tell when something in Britain has been pedestrianised because the chat swaps from “if those feckless disabled scroungers can walk to the kitchen, they can get a job” to “what of the poor, ailing disabled who need to be driven directly to the shop doorstep?”
Apparently if you are a plumber or a painter you won't be able to go shopping in Oxford Street anymore.

I'm sure we'll be seeing emergency property seizures, punitive 150% high band tax rates etc etc *any day now* if our very democracy is under imminent threat

The Times and the Telegraph here continuing the now-standard tactic of explicitly targeting individual members of the public for public denunciation, a thing that I do not remember happening until the late 2010s.

Still a bit in disbelief that in the efforts to reach peak Lib Dem, they have declared to have found the first non-racist genocide

It's perfectly in order to say you think the Zionism is Racism motion was unwise, ill-timed or what you will. The trouble is that if you do not say that what's happened since is a mammoth bad-faith campaign of hysteria and intolerance, you are contributing to that campaign.

Worth adding that no one appears to think the Green's 33% vote-share heralds the inevitability of a progressive coalition.
The result is fine, I don't get the drama about this. The Greens made some mistakes in the campaign, incurred tactical voting against them after they correctly called Zionism racist etc, but if the problem now is how to turn a strong second into a first — good problem to have.

Stepping down ASAP as an MP after being hailed as a man of pure selfless dedication to duty and service is at least quite funny, I think. One last great fuck you to everyone who ever carried water for him, which is a lot of people.

I have to say: “it is the sacred duty of the British press to expose liars and bullshitters defrauding the public” is one of the best and most insulting gambits yet.

1908: the Lancet, one of the most respected scientific journals, calls for 18 age limit on reading in bed amidst a moral panic surrounding children becoming "addicted" to novels, which were "designed to keep kids hooked" and destroy their attention/mental health

Truly insane that you are meant to read this and think it damns the priorities of the protestors rather than the police
Replying to @metpoliceuk
The protest has now concluded with a total of 152 people arrested by officers. The vast majority of arrests - 134 - were for expressing support for a proscribed organisation, under Section 12 of the Terrorism Act 2000. This included two people arrested for attempting to put up a stage at the event. 4 arrests were made on suspicion of encouraging or assisting a crime, under Section 45 of the Serious Crime Act 2007. A number of officers were assaulted while making arrests, but thankfully none required hospital treatment. Two people were arrested for assaulting emergency workers.

The public are IMO entitled to ask why, if it was quite straightforward to wreck Nigel Farage with maybe six weeks of half-committed noticing things, why that was not done at any point in the last two decades instead.

It's the commentary of a political will that has been settled. End of History reporting, There Is No Alternative analysis, and when it has been agreed that politics has been settled, the only thing that can fill this vacuum to keep hacks in a job is personality tittle-tattle.
It’s pretty hard to explain how much UK political commentary has degenerated. 80% of is just a running commentary on “who’s in and who’s out? who said what which talk show?” or embarrassing fawning over how Burnham is “giving a master class”. They genuinely believe that most of politics is now about social media stage management.
