In Craigavon court today I saw a young man sentenced to three months in prison for stealing. What did he steal? £8.87p worth of food items from Eurospar. His distraught heavily pregnant girl friend had to be helped leave the courtroom.
What a sad state of affairs.

Last summer, my son, then 9, swam in an English river and suffered 6 whole days of diarrhoea and vomiting. It was very worrying. His friend was almost hospitalised. And now we’re told the only way we can have more houses is by sacrificing any hope of cleaning up our waterways. It’s so depressing. Humanity can surely be better than this.

17+ care leaver caught stealing toiletries. She was too embarrassed to ask for help, and when she did, she was told to budget her UC better. I put her a bag of essentials together and delivered them directly to her supported accommodation. When asked to speak with a staff member, she told that staff don't turn up for work. This is the current situation of some private care companies paid for by local authorities. Vulnerable children left to defend themselves. #changeiscoming. We will make care experience a protected characteristic.
