Let's talk about what is actually CURRENTLY happening in AB for surgical care:
We are sending kids home with painful broken arms, to await surgery because we no longer have the staff to do it same day!
Elderly pts are waiting days in hospital, in pain, with a broken hip.

An interesting update in the separatist discussion. Mitch Sylvestre told Separation Anxiety back in March that he met with the premier before his September trip.

Premier Smith's CoS is a hypocrite:
"This Big Brother knows best, we're going to tell you how you can develop your land, we're not going to leave it to local people that have an actual stake democratically…
It's a top-down, centralized, quasi-socialist system, and it's wrong"
A bit melodramatic Mr. Mayor.
The announcement yesterday specifically supported the steps that you and yyc council have taken to address this issue, while ensuring Edmonton begins taking a similar approach.
The fact is these municipal infill policies have greatly devalued hundreds of properties over the last several years without compensation to the home owner. That is a breach of property rights and every elected official should be supportive of adjusting the approach on this issue.
The UCP government will continue to stand up for regular homeowners and property rights.
If only we had Danielle Smith, champion of municipal sovereignty, to fight back against this provincial overreach. /s

I hope you'll catch the sarcasm and absurdism... I worry our Premier and Minister probably won't
Make no mistake though: this absurd logic is exactly what our govt is selling you
TRICKLE DOWN Health Care! (Help rich first = all benefit!)
Let me be clear: we know from evidence in countries around the world that physician dual practice drains resources away from the public system and, in many cases, increases wait times for public patients.
This goes directly against the spirit of the Canada Health Act.

A Michigan delegation travelled to Calgary to sell separatists on software developed for Republicans to get out the vote – and how it could be used to wrench Alberta from Confederation.
For David Parker, an organizer for Alberta separation, the software was the path to victory – one that ultimately resulted in a massive privacy breach involving the sensitive personal data of nearly three million Albertans.
But Parker’s embrace of the Michigan delegation is evidence of a pattern: separatist factions in Alberta eager to engage the U.S. in their plans for secession, and American actors willing to assist, either privately or openly.
Through interviews with The Globe on both sides of the border, people involved in politics, the corporate sector and Alberta’s pursuit of separatism have described persistent efforts by figures in the U.S. administration and conservative political establishment to support groups seeking American expansionism and independence for Alberta.

TC Energy looked at the UCP's projected data-centre demand and reportedly refused to build pipelines based on "speculative demand."
Danielle Smith looked at the same gamble and apparently asked: How much of the risk can we dump on Albertans? #abpoli

Can confirm.
Anaesthesia has been forced to work in PRIVATE public-funded CSFs and leave hospital ORs empty for last three yrs…
Now they’ll be forced AND CHOOSE to go make way more money in private clinics… and our govt isn’t even going to track this. (Only tracking surgeons)

Let me be clear: the administration and delivery of health care is an area of provincial jurisdiction, not federal. We expect the federal government to respect Alberta’s jurisdiction and its authority to determine how health care is delivered in this province.
We remain committed to building a stronger public system and ensuring Albertans never have to pay out of pocket for medically necessary care - which is a commitment we have made under our Public Health Care Guarantee.
Alberta’s dual practice model does not violate the Canada Health Act. The Act does not prohibit private practice outside the publicly insured system. Albertans who choose to pay privately for eligible elective surgery should be able to do so here at home, rather than travelling out of province as they have done for decades.
In Alberta, we do things a little differently, and I firmly believe we can do both.

Expanding access through dual practice does not take away from that. It adds to it. This is not an either/or debate. It is about giving Albertans more choice.

My office is flooded with calls from Albertans stuck renewing licences.
They are losing online health records for weeks.
Renewing a passport is easier than this "red tape reduction" chaos.
This government is not cutting red tap, they are tying it in knots.

Alberta's gov't is allowing self-referral & pay privately for MRI, CT scans, ultrasounds, X-rays without a physician’s referral. They defend this by pointing to countries like Germany, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea.
That comparison does not withstand scrutiny. (1/17)
