Chairman @SenTedCruz is committed to honoring the @famofflight5342 and their loved ones by demanding real accountability.
"We are going to pass bipartisan legislation that mandates ADS-B In for aircraft, that prevents another one of these accidents from happening and that also ensures real accountability for the Pentagon. So that we don't have a similar military accident with tragic loss of life."

"The greatest tragedy of that is that it was utterly and completely preventable. That accident over DCA did not have to happen. It could have been prevented and we know how to prevent it. The @NTSB for decades has been recommending specifically how to prevent an accident like this, and that is mandating that ADS-B In technology be used in aircraft."
Chairman @SenTedCruz at the @famofflight5342 press conference, urging Congress to take action on aviation safety in remembrance of the horrific DCA midair collision that claimed the lives of 67 people.
595 days since the DCA midair collision. 50 safety recommendations. It’s time for action.
At #ALPAASF, Chairwoman Homendy called for action to prevent another tragedy: “Every single day” without implementation is an unacceptable risk to aviation safety.

"Your grief should be the grief of our nation and we should not rest until we get this law passed."
@SenatorCantwell joined @famofflight5342 to stand with them in support of the strongest aviation safety reforms possible, including the ROTOR Act’s strong ADS-B In standard.

It was an honor to join @SenTedCruz @SenatorCantwell @RepBresnahan @ALPAPilots @dcfireems and many others in support of the @famofflight5342 at their press conference yesterday. Our investigations are just the first step. Real safety change comes when our recommendations are implemented.

A beautiful day in DC; a terrible tragedy remembered from January 2025: a press conference about the airline safety work of the families of Flight 5342, which included 28 members of the U.S. figure skating community.
Rachel Feres, family member of Flight 5342 victims: ""This is not about whether you can afford to act...you have the money, you have the leverage, you have the voice. The question is why safety so rarely gets the same urgency as the next quarterly earnings report."

I will never be able to appropriately thank those responsible for pulling the victims from the water as we waited for them to be recovered; so their families could have peace. @SecArmy @USArmy This pain will never leave me, but you can help ease any doubts. #SaferSkiesForAll

Day 573.
He practiced the same jump again and again. His coach beside him. His future ahead of him.
He had goals. He had passion. He was just getting started.
He was one of 67 who never came home.
The @usarmy made our families a promise. Keep it. @secarmy Release the reports.

Replying to @SecArmy
@SecArmy @USArmy We want transparency. My brother was a 5342 victim. His finance now depends on their adopted rescue as a service animal and emotional support since his death. These are the major life long impacts. We need answers.
Day 569.
He was #adopted. A new beginning. A bond that was just getting started.
Then someone he loved never came home.
569 days later, we’re still asking the @usarmy : Release the investigations. @secarmy : Show us what changed. @senatorwicker @SenJackReed

People often ask me what my brother Chris was like before Flight 5342.
The truth is, I don’t think about him as a victim.
I think about my little brother, the one who made every summer on Cape Cod feel like the best days of our lives.

This is a good time to remind people that there were 50 @NTSB safety recommendations made in the wake of the DCA mid-air collision.
Very few of those recommendations have actually been implemented. There is legislation in Congress right now to address some of the airspace issues … but it’s stalled after passing the House.

Day 548.
Silence doesn't strengthen confidence.
Transparency does.
@secarmy Driscoll, Families continue asking the @usarmy to publicly release its investigations and demonstrate how lessons learned are protecting future military crews and commercial passengers alike.

Today marks 18 months since my brother's life was tragically stolen from him in a preventable tragedy that had decades of data to support that it WOULD happen. No life has a price. The cost of safety is never too high. This mantle holding his memory shouldn't exist.

Reading the blog at the end of Doug’s thread took me straight back to January 29, 2025. Ironically Doug and his sister were the first other family members I met in DC. Through all the hardship he was been through he really has been a tireless advocate for each person lost on that flight.
Like my brother, I was traveling for work. I was in Atlantic City watching the Flyers-Devils game when breaking news flashed across the TV: a plane had crashed near DCA. I had no idea my brother, Chris, was on that flight.
Around 1 a.m., my phone rang. It was my sister in law. I knew immediately something was wrong. Through tears, she told me Chris was on the plane. She had fallen asleep expecting him to be home when she woke up.
American Airlines had few answers. My parents couldn’t believe it, they thought Chris wasn’t even traveling that week. I drove through the night back to Massachusetts while my father drove to Washington. The next morning, my mother and I boarded the first flight we could.
I’ll never forget walking into that hotel. It wasn’t just my family’s nightmare. It was a room filled with families whose lives had been shattered in an instant.
Nearly 18 months later, we’re still waiting for the urgency our loved ones deserved. The ROTOR Act failed by one vote, and meaningful aviation safety reforms remain stalled.
Every day meaningful aviation safety reforms are delayed is another day we gamble that another family won’t get the call we did. Stop talking about safety. Pass the reforms. Now.

Our loved ones should never have been the price of preventable safety failures.
As the @NTSB said: “Every day that passes without implementation of all 50 NTSB recommendations represents a continued and unacceptable risk to public safety.”
