We’re just over an hour away from a confirmed defeat to a United team led by Wes Brown, John O’Shea and Ji-sung Park next week.

Avram Grant LC final v Tottenham AVB 3-5 v Arsenal Potter 4-1 v Brighton Maresca 2-0 v Ipswich That from Alonso yesterday was right amongst them. Even with a night’s sleep I’m just totally baffled he could get it so so wrong yesterday. I’m worried.

You don’t lose at home to that lot. You just don’t. And you definitely don’t give them that much respect. Head is on Mars.

Wtf was that? Actually appalling. Alonso honeymoon over. Wankers.

- Not prepared for a high press fast start in an away game - Anderson out of position - Fernandez offering no defensive cover - Inverted full backs - Getting the ball constantly to wingers who are double marked and hoping they do something A Maresca special today .

Had Forest and Villa avoided each other last season we could have seen back to back all English EL finals. Three of the last four ECLs have been won by PL teams. European football in general is just a lot easier than it was.
Great that Bournemouth are doing well. Think the issue is it’s only really four clubs competing with the PL teams (PSG, RM, Barca, BM). In the last six seasons, almost all PL defeats in CL knockout stages have been versus those four.

People are saying it’s the death of football because an English up and comer have beaten Italian giants but haven’t Como just beaten Man United 4-1? Surely that’s the same scenario but roles reversed

This PSG Barca game would be an absolute classic if it actually meant something.

Also, much of the programming around football has changed. No more Grandstand, Football Focus, Soccer AM, Goals on Sunday, Soccer Saturday is crap, MOTD isn’t very needed anymore. Super Sunday has been turned into a fan channel. 👴
Various things have made me feel this way: - VAR - Feels like tourism has skyrocketed since COVID - Forced atmospheres/gimmicks/content creators - PSR - Data dominates everything - Players join academies as soon as they’re out the womb and are robots

As much as Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton have done well and deserve credit, there’s just something a bit soulless about it all. Spreadsheets running football. Turning from an art into a science. I can see why even if your team win the league it’s all not quite the same .

I’ve supported Arsenal for over 30 years. I’m a season ticket holder and we’re successful. Yet I’ve never felt more disconnected from the club. I’ve written about why, and what I miss about the game I fell in love with. taproomnetwork.com/2026/10/1…

Because a vast majority of the coverage and discourse around English football is catered to those three clubs.
Jamie Carragher on Liverpool games Gary Neville on Man Utd games Alan Smith on Arsenal games Why do Sky think we want to hear their bias nonsense while watching their unbearable teams play football?

What a better team we are without Sanchez, Fofana and Gusto. And as much as it pains me to say it, we’re better without Reece right now, both as a midfielder and as a leader. He’d still start at RCB for me but the club don’t want to play him there.

That’s the kind of win we used to get at Bolton, Blackburn, Stoke et al back in the day. It was a mature performance away from home against a shithouse bogey team who were unbeaten. Feels a big step.

That was bloody brilliant. That was Chelsea. That’s what I want to see.

We have to expect teams like Everton will try and beat us by bullying us. So far we’ve stood up to it well but got to keep our heads.

Newcastle decided to go down the Blueco route of signing potential. Tonight, they’re getting pumped 4-1 by a promoted side that’s had 35% of the ball and beaten them with direct counter-attacking. The keeper and CF rabbits in the headlights. All feels very familiar.
