Rick Dudley from Mississauga was an incredible lacrosse player who won a Mann Cup('71 with Brantford), a Champions Cup('74 with Rochester) and almost single handedly broke the powerhouse Oshawa Green Gaels 38 game winning streak in 1968. He played in the 1975 Stanley Cup final

From my brother in law Jason's famous hockey card collection, the great Newsy Lalonde. This card is from the 1955-1956 Quaker Corn Flakes "All Time Greats Collection". Lalonde is one of only two players in both the Hockey and Lacrosse Hall of Fames 🥍🏒 @CanLaxHall

Doug Favell was also a great lacrosse scorer out St Catharines, Ontario. He set a Minto Cup record in 1964 scoring a remarkable 3 goals in 11 seconds. He later played Pro lacrosse in 1968, 69 and 1974 and is a member of the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame @ONLaxHallofFame
59 years ago today ON THIS DAY in hockey history (October 19, 1967): The @NHLFlyers make their home debut at The Spectrum and defeat fellow expansion team Pittsburgh 1-0 on a goal by Bill Sutherland, with goaltender Doug Favell picking up his 1st career shutout too

Great article by @Bettsy41 in the Cambridge Today on local lacrosse star David Anderson and his infamous Great Grandfather and Grandfather. Ross and Gaylord Powless from Six Nations are both lacrosse legends in the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame 🥍🥍 @CmlaChiefs @CanLaxHall
What a lacrosse family tree. David Anderson was just selected 9th overall by Georgia in the NLL Draft. His great-grandfather was Ross Powless. His grandfather was Gaylord Powless. Ross and Gaylord became the first and only father-son duo from the same sport inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. Now another generation has gone from Culver → Yale → Six Nations summer box → the NLL. But my favorite part of this story might be how David describes growing up with that kind of lacrosse lineage. He doesn’t call it pressure. He calls it an “obsessed support system.” I love that. We talk a lot about what great lacrosse communities pass from one generation to the next. Maybe it isn’t just skill. It’s knowledge. Access. Stories. Expectations. People who understand the game. People who care enough to watch, teach, drive, encourage and occasionally get out of the way. Eventually the names change. The game keeps moving through the family. Really cool story. 👇 cambridgetoday.ca/local-spor…

With Ryan Benesch's retirement, it is a good time to remind the Kitchener-Waterloo lacrosse folks that 3 of the top 8 NLL all time point getters played minor and Junior in KW. Colin Doyle and Dhane Smith are the other two @KWMLA @KWKodiaks

Congratulations to Kitchener-Waterloo's Ryan Benesch on a great career in the National Lacrosse League! KW is very fortunate to have him coaching in our minor system! @KWMLA @KWKodiaks
From first overall pick to one of the game’s greats. 👏 Ryan Benesch has announced his retirement after 19 years in the National Lacrosse League, scoring 633 goals across 323 regular-season and playoff games. Thank you, @beniboi21. 👏

A little NLL history tonight in NY as goalie brothers face each other! KW's Steven(@newyorkriptide) and Kevin(@PantherCityLax) Orleman. Both are former @KWMLA , @KW_JrA_Lacrosse and @TeamOntarioLax. Kevin takes round one.
What a night for the Orleman family 👏 HUGE shoutout to Orleman brothers Kevin and Steven for going toe-to-toe in goal deep into OT. Let's do it again soon. #OrleyBowl

Despite my roots, you can’t ignore history being made and how good for the game this Minto was. Congratulations to the @raidersjralax on an incredible season, and even more impressive Minto Cup. Alberta lacrosse has hopefully finally put the lax world on notice

That’s part of why I think the coaching piece deserves more attention here. Akwesasne has always had talent and lacrosse culture — but that doesn’t mean national titles just happen automatically. Raweras Mitchell took over the Jr. B program in 2023 and immediately helped take them to an Ontario title and a Founders silver. Last year he was also on the Snake Island Muskies staff that won the Presidents Cup. Now Akwesasne finishes the job with a Founders Cup championship. That kind of recent championship experience has to matter. Culture gives you the foundation. Coaching helps turn it into repeatable winning habits under pressure.
It’s those who’ve showed up and supported the youth & ingrained a sense of unity/pride/honor. It takes a whole community of good minds
