Going to pin this running thread of cards that I just think look great to my home page. Here's the first one -- 1880 Currier and Ives trade card of a young Uncle Sam. One of the first trade cards categorized in the American Card Catalog (H2).

I've mentioned before how the Ya-Lo football game cards of the 1920s and 1930s likely depicted Hall of Famer Red Grange. But why is that? A few reasons:
First, and perhaps most importantly, Grange himself was the Vice President of the company creating these games.
Second, there are both offensive and defensive cards. Grange himself was a two-way player and the picture of the players is similar.
Third, the colors of the cards were orange and blue -- the same colors as Grange's Illinois college team and his Chicago Bears team.
I've already completed the first type of 1878 Huntley & Palmers trade cards. I've started compiling the second type (with a semi-circle background as shown here), which is another 12-card set. This one for hurdling was in yesterday's mail.
How many uncut 19th century tobacco cards have you seen? Here are my two 1889 N72 Duke Coins of All Nations uncut strips.
This 1881 Bufford and Sons trade card set featured the then Seven Wonders of the World. Blank spaces on the card let advertisers promote their business and proclaim it as the Eighth Wonder. Here's my complete set.

How many kids back in the day had a massive letdown when opening their candy & realizing the included ⚾️ card said Bob Roth, not Babe Ruth?! 😞🤣 (In fairness to Bob, he was the 1915 AL HR champ w/ 7. 👍)

How the heck did I get a 1941 Play Ball Stormy Weatherly? Maybe cause I accidentally bid $22 when I meant to bid $12? Still a W cause it’s beautiful, and I never had one of these before
