The report, 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬: 𝐀 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤 , highlights major gaps in the bank’s environmental and social safeguards, including the absence of an independent accountability mechanism, weak project-level disclosure, and a disclosure policy that has remained “interim” since 2016. The report also examines projects in India, including the Lamphelpat Waterbody Rejuvenation Project in Manipur and the Indira Gandhi Canal rehabilitation project in Rajasthan, highlighting concerns around environmental damage, livelihood disruption, transparency and community participation.
