I deeply respect both the pedagogical commitment to still teaching the students interested in doing the academic labor and the testing out of strategies that allow for that work.
Me, just simply existing on the daily in higher ed: “Well look at that. Another thing to put in the folder for my project on endless triage in higher ed.”
We actually need to do a better job teaching that not first understanding is a fundamental part of learning. But we’ve created a society where not immediately understanding is seen to be a deficit, one soon to be quantified via points missed on a quiz.
“Help me understand this” is the most common student use of AI. Higher Ed is completely out of touch with the reality of how students are using and abusing AI. The whole focus is on integrity and assessment but they should focus more on their instruction. news.gallup.com/poll/704090/…
But I do look forward to being lectured about approved accommodations and especially by people who don’t know a single thing about the accommodations process and don’t want to know a thing because they actually don’t give a fuck.
Few analog learning champions of 2026 really care about whatever exclusions may result.
I mean, disabled people fucking suck. Hell yeah, let’s exclude them! If someone has a medical condition that inhibits writing, well, they don’t deserve an education anyway!

Anything that gets launched with a bullshit acronym.
Someone replied “inclusion of everyone in general classrooms,” which, not to get lost in semantics, would raise questions about the terms “inclusion” and “general.”
Though education does have a long history of “exclusivity in exclusive classrooms,” certainly.
The second-person pronoun “you” has always been an interesting feature when it appears in students’ “academic” writing. And it remains so in generative AI output in ways that are both the same as and different than those previous interesting ways.
85% of my academic reading. I have containers and containers of printed PDFs many of which have lived in three states and 5 homes + a storage unit.

How are you ever going to be named an assistant associate provost to the associate provost if you have not coined an acronym to sell a higher ed commodity?
There are many metrics to assess faculty achievement. But in managed, corporate, consumerist university only one matters:
Have you created something requiring an acronym? Said more directly, have you coined an acronym?
Congrats to those who have. The rest of us are failures.

one of the things i hate about liberals/Liberals is that they'll drown you in a deluge of announcements about "improvements" - like this, or grocery rebates or tax cuts or whatever - while making life worse by creating conditions that favour your exploiters
I find myself often thinking about how I both did and didn’t think about being a professor for 40 years and even if anyone could still be a professor for 40 years. I’m very tired and 25 more years seems like a lot but also very unlikely.
So very tired.
The “universities are especially failing the workplace in this way” take.
One of my personal favorites.
