lol. "Trump's comments are unlikely to curry goodwill among an American electorate reckoning with an affordability crisis less than two weeks out from midterm elections." I am sure people are very happy that oil gazillionaires are getting even richer. businessinsider.com/high-gas…

But as @christygoldfuss of @NRDC told me, big environmental groups and some of their Dem allies need to see a lot more. "To the extent that the Trump administration continues to stand in the way of clean energy, they are endangering any permitting bill going forward," she said

While the current permitting bill would deliver transmission benefits, some of the language around environmental and public health safeguards requires changes. Our experts across sectors have broken down the details, examining its policy impacts and the improvements we need to make. nrdc.org/media/nrdc-assessme…

Seems important!
🚨The Trump administration wants to remand a crucial permit for Orsted’s revolution wind farm off the Rhode Island coast. The DOJ motion made in a legal filing late Friday could threaten a delicate permitting deal with Democrats.

Big Oil giants ExxonMobil and Suncor Energy are trying to throw out a lawsuit by Boulder, Colorado, that seeks to hold them responsible for the damage their climate pollution caused. And they want to go a step further and stop anyone from holding them accountable in any state’s court system.

Seems important! "while asserting that the Clean Air Act applies here, the current administration is doing everything it can to get the courts to say that the act does not in fact allow EPA to regulate greenhouse gases now or in the future," Gina McCarthy thehill.com/opinion/energy-e…

Wait, my god. The mad bastard is actually doing it.

A new go-to source for permitting news? Watch out!
NEWS: Senate permitting text is coming tomorrow, Sen. Alan Armstrong (R-Okla.) tells me. There’ll be a press conference and a full bill release, he said. A senior aide involved in negotiations also confirmed to @NicoPortuondo.

@politico today. Whoops! "Trump trumpeted the fuel economy revision as helping consumers. But its own documents suggest otherwise." Hey, don't worry, though: Oil companies are going to profit from selling more gasoline, NHTSA's analysis said.... 🫤

"As the U.S. has become a net exporter of petroleum ... any price increase that results from increased domestic petroleum demand does not have overall welfare implications," DOT's analysis says. "The additional financial burden to U.S. consumers is captured by domestic producers"

This is a big blow to American drivers already paying more than $4/gal. More gas guzzlers = higher costs at the pump. Oh, well, the oil industry will have another reason to celebrate: theguardian.com/us-news/2026…

This is a good point -- somehow the Abundance guys need to reckon w this tension. So far they have not. The opposite is also possible: this illustrates the reason we have these procedures/laws.

So Ezra did an interview with the @jasminewsun, as did Derek Thompson. Ezra doesn't seem to have written on it or opined much on "Data Centers as Abundance". I don't want him to pop off while uninformed, but there's been enough time to gather info. If Data Centers ARE a legit menace, document that. But if the objections are mostly myth, exaggeration, and folk understanding, then the Abundance Agenda should mean defending them, they're not that different from transmission lines or fracking. The Abundance Agenda is a bit too cowardly, dodging, as it does unpopular (among liberal) causes for my taste. I preferred @MarcDunkelman 's Why Nothing Works. The Minnesota Power Lines popular uprising insideclimatenews.org/news/0… thwarted progress we can now say, decades later. We need to be braver in the moment.

Bikes aren’t the reason why traffic is bad. Cars getting in the way of other cars are. The best way to reduce traffic is to give people other options to get around. That means bikes. And transit. And pedestrian-first streets.
