We might as well not exist 🤬
“Just under 20% were actually British.”
That’s the moment Nadhim Zahawi exposed the “consultation” on indefinite leave to remain and Emily Thornberry’s reaction said everything.
Thornberry insisted: “This was not an announcement, it was a consultation and hundreds of thousands of people answered that consultation.”
Zahawi: “What was the percentage of people who answered the consultation that were actually British?”
Her reaction is telling. She acts as if it’s an outrageous, bewildering thing to ask, then dramatically replies: “What? You mean people who live here? Or do you mean people who have British nationality?”
Zahawi: “People who have British nationality? I think it was just under 20% if I’m not mistaken.”
She clearly didn’t want to touch it. That figure shows the consultation was largely meaningless as a measure of British public opinion.
Lucky for her, Peston immediately jumped in and moved on! Right at the most important part of the exchange. Plenty of people watching won’t know those details, and cutting it off there meant they never heard them. It looked like he was protecting her.
Her response made the distinction plain. This government sees no real difference between British nationals and their interests, and simply “people who live here”. More evidence, if any was needed, that Labour does not prioritise British people.

Says a woman who's part of a government that blatantly ignored the 7 pillars of safeguarding after the 7 year long Alexis Jay Inquiry, costing £186,6 million in tax payer funding, involving hundreds of hours of heartbreaking testimony from survivors at the hand of Pakistani led children rape gangs.
A decades old phenomenon that Labour are too weak to challenge
Is this in case you lose voters?
This is pathetic grandstanding about one white man.
Solidarity with every woman who bravely reported, endured the long wait for trial, and gave evidence in court against Russell Brand. Especially those who did not receive justice today.
Everyone with a basic understanding of the criminal justice system knows that just because the verdict was "not guilty", it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. All we know is that the jury could not be certain “beyond all reasonable doubt”.
I want to say directly to the victims: thank you and I believe you. Millions of us do.

***EXCLUSIVE***
Democrats are preparing to use their new power in Congress to force the DoJ to hand over the unredacted Epstein files needed by Scotland Yard to pursue a case against Lord Mandelson, @Telegraph can reveal.
The party plans to use its incoming control of Congress to compel the release of documents that could prove crucial to bringing criminal charges against the former ambassador.
Democrats are also planning a renewed push to summon Lord Mandelson before Congress to answer questions about his links to Jeffrey Epstein, after he rebuffed previous invitations to give evidence, sources said.
The intervention could throw a lifeline to Scotland Yard’s investigation, which has stalled amid delays by the Justice Department in handing over the original documents.

The judge who remanded Danny Tommo in custody won't be investigated.
Tan Ikram, the deputy chief magistrate, refused him bail at his first appearance. In 2024 Ikram was formally warned after liking an anti-Israel post. The judges' watchdog accepted the like was an accident.
Last month Tory shadow justice secretary Nick Timothy asked for an investigation. Lord Chancellor Alex Norris, who runs the courts, turned the request down and asked Timothy to stop the "dangerous public criticism".
Questions aren't dangerous. Dodging them is.

How depressing that it’s impossible to have anything nice anymore. Canaletto’s painting this morning by the canal in London, covered in red spray paint applied by someone devoid of talent, brains and culture.

My mother who is on a state pension can’t afford the £600 price tag for 500 litres of heating oil .. which would only last 5 to 6 weeks if she is lucky!
I have no doubt that all the Labour MPs will be nice and cozy this winter not having to worry about heating their homes .. I’m sure they will be living in their second homes “for work” and we will be paying their bills
Wow some thing falling
Everything else is up
Tax
Crime
Unemployment
Mortgages
Loans
The number of businesses in Britain has fallen by 104,000 since 2025, taking the total down to 5.6m, government figures have revealed.
The main contributor to the decline was the loss of 157,000 self-employed people. It's not surprising that the self-employed are quitting in droves. The mad "Making Tax Difficult" requirement to force them to file tax returns five times a year has pushed out many.
The upcoming requirement to pay tax early will make cash flow very challenging and force many more self-employed out of the market.

A one-way ticket to the past. Nationalised rail services are poorer than when they were private.
This is what happens when Labour politicians try to run things.
🚨 NEW: Labour MPs have summoned c2c rail bosses to explain the worsening train delays following nationalisation
Since being nationalised, the proportion of trains arriving on time has plummeted from 94% to just 71.5%
