#measles is preventable & can be especially devastating when acquired during adulthood as we’re tragically seeing in the current US outbreak @IDSAInfo @AmerMedicalAssn @CIDRAP @AmerAcadPeds @acog @ASMicrobiology
A 40-year-old woman who lived in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, has died from measles complications, the county coroner confirmed. It’s the third measles-associated death in a fast-growing outbreak that’s sparked a political clash between state and federal officials. cnn.it/46mXo76

Today, the AMA joined the Vaccine Integrity Project in announcing the completion of an independent, vaccine evidence review process for the 2026–27 respiratory virus season. The Vaccine Integrity Project conducted a thorough scientific review of RSV, flu, and COVID-19 vaccines — examining the risks and benefits. The evidence showed that immunizations against these respiratory viruses continue to provide meaningful protection against severe illness, hospitalization and death, with no new safety concerns in comparative studies with currently recommended immunizations. The evidence reviews helped inform new 2026–27 recommendations released by leading medical societies. The AMA also created new resources to help clinicians and patients put the latest evidence and recommendations into practice. Now more than ever, the public deserves clear, credible vaccine guidance grounded in the best available evidence and developed through a transparent process. Learn more: spr.ly/6043B17mgF

I want to emphasize that all the information that was shared Monday at the White House should be totally disregarded. It is dangerous. And hopefully parents will understand that was not a responsible sharing of information. For the full discussion, listen to episode 215⬇️

🚨Colleagues in infectious diseases, public health, emergency medicine, global health, and related fields: Myself, Deb Houry, Anne Schuchat and @Craig_A_Spencer with the support of @IDSAInfo have drafted an open letter to Congress regarding the proposed use of third-country facilities for the quarantine, isolation, or treatment of Americans potentially exposed to or infected with Ebola virus disease. The letter outlines concerns related to standards of care, access to advanced supportive and critical care, oversight and accountability, patient rights and well-being, and the potential diversion of resources from outbreak response efforts. We invite you to review the letter and consider signing on by Thursday, 5 PM ET. ✍️ Sign on here: tinyurl.com/Ebola-Letter

5 months into 2026, the US has racked up 1,983 confirmed measles cases. That's nearly 87% as many cases as were recorded in all of 2025. Most of those cases are locally acquired; only 9 are imported. Unless vaccination patterns improve, endemic measles is here to stay. cdc.gov/measles/data-researc…

⚠️ A lot of misinformation is circulating about the current #hantavirus outbreak. Facts: 🦠 Hantaviruses are not new; cases occur in the Americas every year 🚫 This is NOT “the next COVID” 📉 There is no evidence of widespread community transmission 💊 Ivermectin has not been shown to prevent or treat hantavirus infection 🌍 Public health authorities are actively tracing contacts and monitoring exposures Concern and vigilance are appropriate. Panic and misinformation are not.

A lot of people are asking: “Could #hantavirus become another pandemic?” Probably not. But that’s the wrong question. The better question is: “Do we have systems capable of detecting and responding to unusual outbreaks quickly?” That’s what truly matters
