I practiced for years in a true community hospital — independent docs, independent referrals, real local care. After the ACA + ACO wave, Baylor bought the hospital, bought the PCPs, locked referrals, and independent specialists went out. Then they tried to hire us.
What if physicians were allowed to own hospitals?

In 2024, the healthcare industry spent $744 million lobbying Congress, led by the American Hospital Association. Their goal? Block site-neutral payment reform, undermine price transparency, and keep the status quo intact. Health Systems claim transparency exists, but the files are indecipherable. When decoded, the same procedure varies by 500%, in the same city. Not because of quality. But because of market power....

American healthcare didn’t break. It was built broken. In 1943, the IRS made employer-sponsored health insurance tax-free. One line of policy rewired the entire system. It punished people for paying cash. Rewarded middlemen for bloating costs. And made your doctor answer to an insurer, not to you. No price tags. No incentives. No accountability. Just a tax shelter in scrubs. This isn’t a healthcare system. It’s a fiscal glitch that grew into a $4.5 trillion Frankenstein. #Healthcare #TaxCodeDistortions #TheRojasReport

Going concierge was great for me. $2500 a year. Unlimited, untimed visits. Quarterly thorough 🩸work. Writes peptide scripts if necessary. Isn’t forced to prescribe medication for kickbacks. No insurance taken and that’s been a great difference. It’s actual medicine

Physicians in the United States are banned from owning hospitals. That’s not a conspiracy theory—it’s Section 6001 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), passed in 2010. Here’s how it happened: •Congress needed votes for the ACA. •The American Hospital Association (AHA) made a deal: They’d back the law if Congress banned new physician-owned hospitals. Why? To protect big hospital monopolies from competition. With insurers taking a larger cut under the ACA, hospitals wanted a guarantee they’d get theirs too. The result? •No new physician-owned hospitals for over a decade. •Patients are stuck with fewer choices, higher expenses, and less innovation. •Meanwhile, studies show physician-owned hospitals consistently deliver better outcomes and higher satisfaction. Here’s what blows my mind: Almost no one knows this. Like 99% of Americans. Why? •Because this deal was buried in legislative fine print. •Because the healthcare industry is more interested in protecting profits than educating the public. •Because we’ve normalized the idea that this is just how healthcare works. But here’s the truth: If you want better healthcare—lower expenses, better outcomes, more options—you need competition. And that starts with ending policies like this. How can we fix healthcare if no one even knows it’s broken? So, now you know. #health #care #healthcare

We don't need a managerial system for the practice of medicine, we never did - just a system of basic laws and morals. This was the case before political opportunists and confidence men convinced the public that they could eliminate human suffering with the stroke of a regulatory pen, unleashing the unspeakable catastrophe of modern managed healthcare. It's time to take her down. We and our patients will take it from there. Thank you very much.

Healthcare prices are like a bad magic trick. - MRI at a hospital: $3,719. - Same MRI, independent center: $688. Abracadabra, your money's gone! #HealthcareHeist Not #healthcare

Physicians have no equity ownership. “But, they’re bad at business” The nonsense will never stop. It’s time to remove the moratorium on physician-owned hospitals. #healthcare
The other big problem with physician employment is lack of equity. (And I don’t mean the political stuff the libs and progs go on about). OWNERSHIP. A piece of the organizational action. If the hospital does well the physicians should get a piece of that. Otherwise expect bare minimums. You don’t get it any other way with human incentives directing behavior.
