A few decades ago, public culture mocked footballers for a perceived lack of intelligence.
Even if that habit lingers, it’s well out of date.

In real life, the Bayern Munich midfielder was okay.
In the Bundesliga's Playmobil livestream of Bayern's 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, half of his body did in fact sink below the level of the turf.
That's because in a bid to attract new audiences to its showpiece fixture, Germany's top division offered an alternative livestream, delivered to more than 100 countries in which every player was reimagined as a Playmobil figure.
Not only had every Bayern and Dortmund player been stylised as one of these figures, but with the help of skeletal tracking their movements also mirrored those of their flesh-and-blood counterparts, with a lag of just a few seconds.

Jobe Bellingham has begun to develop at Borussia Dortmund.
His performance against Bayern Munich was generally excellent and just the latest game in which he showed a growing influence.
