One week later, looking back on the 2026 Headway UK conference. Over 400 professionals, from healthcare, social care, legal services, academia and the voluntary sector, all with a common purpose: to support people affected by brain injury to live meaningful, fulfilling lives. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘Reintegration in action’ – we focused on how we can better support families affected by brain injury to reintegrate into society, and how to better support them once discharged from hospital. If you attended, thank you! We hope you had a wonderful day. If not, these pictures will have to do! What should the theme of next year’s conference be? Leave a comment and let us know! #HeadwayConference #Reintegration

A promising development for patients and families affected by brain tumours. Earlier diagnosis can make a real difference, helping people access treatment, support and information sooner. We welcome innovations that improve outcomes for those affected by brain tumours and the brain injury that can result from them.
A new NHS pilot could help people with suspected brain tumours get a diagnosis sooner. 🧬 Rapid genomic testing can analyse a tumour’s genetic code in under two hours during surgery, providing information about tumour biology to help inform treatment and potential access to clinical trials. The technology was developed by scientists and medics at @UniofNottingham, including those at our Centre of Excellence. 🔗 Read more: bit.ly/3T3T1ed #BrainTumourResearch #TogetherWeWillFindACure @NHSEngland

I've been trying it get hold of our send coordinator @suffolkcc for 20 days and counting. Complaints unanswered, emails ignored, no parent carer forum - fun times and @Ofstednews @RD_EofE think everything is great

Families share transport experiences with the Law Commission - Why transport matters The Down’s Syndrome Association recently brought together parents and carers to share their experiences of transport accessibility with the Law Commission. The session was part of the Law Commission’s review of transport accessibility for disabled people and explored how buses, trains, taxis, air travel and other forms of transport support or restrict the lives of disabled people. We were delighted to be joined by representatives from the #LawCommission, who heard directly from families about the realities of travelling for work, education, volunteering, social activities and everyday life. One message came through clearly throughout the session: transport is about much more than getting from one place to another. Being non-verbal doesn't mean having nothing to say. It means finding different ways to communicate. From gestures and facial expressions to AAC devices and sign language, every form of communication is valid and powerful. This National Non-Speaking/Nonverbal Awareness Day, we stand alongside non-speaking children and their families to raise awareness and champion inclusion 💚
