By 2024, 48% of job openings will be middle-skill and 32 percent will be high-skill. This means that, five years from now, nearly 80% of all job openings will require more than a high school degree. #WorkforceDevelopment #HSE #AdultEdu #COABE #EducateAndElevate

I love this visual pattern, though (or because) it has confused me. I think it is based on sequence Q100400C2 in What Comes Next? (adultnumeracynetwork.org/Wha…). Click Load Sequence and enter the code to try it out. @MathSarahLL

I’m collecting bicycle street markings from different places. The first three are from a trip to Spain last month. The last delightful hand-drawn? one is from England in 2016. What do bicycle street markings look like near you?

Here's the progression. It was so much fun to share our students' way of seeing. Thank you to @fawnpnguyen for posting #469! visualpatterns.org/461---480…
Using a dot talk to draw out different ways of seeing one figure in a visual pattern (and create expressions) with @eappleton & Maggie Brown. #ANNmath

It was so much fun to just play in a workshop session. I learned how to make cat's cradle with string, played some Set, explored radial symmetry with hinged mirrors and pattern blocks. This was a small fraction of the options. How did they carry so much stuff to Seattle?

@MathSarahLL and @mtrushkowsky led us in Play with Math: It Belongs to You. So great! #COABE2022 #ANNmath
I wish to use books like @mathyawp 's Mathematics for Human Flourishing and @Mathgarden 's Chasing Rabbits to advocate for adding MP9: Play with mathematical ideas and immerse in its beauty, share this joy widely.

I'm excited about the first conference in a long time. Look for #ANNmath sessions in the Math and Numeracy strand, supported by the Adult Numeracy Network: bit.ly/coabemathandnumeracy #coabe2022 #adultedu #iteachmath

These phones are full of proportions. It’s fun to imagine a series of lessons that use screenshots from different apps. What was the timer set for when I hit Start? #adultedu #ANNmath #iteachmath

3.9 million New Yorkers with limited English proficiency or without a high school diploma need adult education. We call on @GovKathyHochul to invest $15.6 million in FY23 to support the Adult Literacy Education (ALE) Stabilization and Enhancement Fund. #LiteracyLiftsNY @NYCCAL

I’m with @fawnpnguyen. I don’t want a system. It’s my stubborn streak. Makes learning math damn difficult though, since I want to discover everything for myself. Why middle school math is best for me.

I absolutely agree. @adultnumeracy1 supports math teachers for adults, but the focus is generally on adult literacy and high school equivalency. Occasionally, we talk about how we might widen our focus to all adults, but we’re pretty busy as it is.

What timing! I'm sitting here beaming, listening to Tom Waits and the boys on Dead Man's Pop. Can't wait.

This is horrifying. @NYCMayor, you must release people from Rikers now. @GovKathyHochul, please sign the Less is More legislation immediately.
🧵 I want to share more about what I witnessed at Rikers Island yesterday. We broke into groups to inspect different parts of the sprawling facility. I spent several hours at the Otis Bantum Correctional Center.

Hey #mtbos, does anyone remember a meeting/webinar to help presenters prepare proposals for #NCTM? We (#ANNmath) is doing something similar for the #COABE conference and are wondering how to structure the meeting.

The Adult Numeracy Network is proud to host the Math and Numeracy strand at COABE. If you are interested in presenting, please visit adultnumeracynetwork.org/COA… to see what we look for in a proposal. We are also available for support as you write. @adultnumeracy1 #adultedu
