It's extraordinary that their first impulse for increasing the birthrate is always to force people into — or trap them in — marriages,
rather than, say, making having children more affordable and accessible.
Palmer Luckey reveals the startup he'd build today: oxytocin doping to end divorce
"I would try to end the tragedy of divorce with oxytocin doping for marriage counseling."
"We understand mammal pair bonding pretty well. There's a lot of people who want to stay together. Most of the people who don't want to stay together should stay together, especially for their kids."
"And we can, if people think SSRIs are fine, which they're not, but if they were, then oxytocin doping to stay together is definitely fine."
"It's the mammal pair bonding chemical. There's things you can do to increase the uptake, and it's very well understood. Also, totally unregulated, which is great. Unregulated spaces are a lot easier to do. You can go buy a kilogram of oxytocin on Sigma Aldrich Chemical Supply right now, and if you do that, maybe you won't die alone."
"It's pure biology. It's used for women who don't bond with their kids, and now for women who don't bond with their husbands. It's also used for kids with various neurological issues, some kids with autism who struggle with pair bonding."
"The cool thing is it's a self-reinforcing loop. We understand that very well. Unlike most drugs, it doesn't form a chemical dependency. It actually unburdens you from a chemical dependency."
Boys coming up w use cases no one is concerned about.

Imagine if all this brainpower was focused on solving poverty or somesuch…
Instinct CEO Noah Shinn says agents will let restaurants give tables to birthdays and anniversaries over whoever clicks first
"And traditionally, because of the way that the internet has worked, at least for reservations, it's been first come first serve. So anyone that comes in, no matter how important or how not important it might be, whoever gets in first gets the reservation."
"But what if you had the ability for the agent to be able to communicate on both sides, communicate, hey, this is important. This is actually the person's spouse's birthday, the 30th birthday, a very special event is coming up."
"And the restaurant too can say, let's actually prioritize birthdays or major decade birthdays or major anniversaries or these certain people, I don't know, whatever it might be, right?"
"So now with the ability, with all of the logistical burden of having to describe exactly what your case is and what's happening and why it's important. Now we have the ability to perfectly match what does the restaurant want? What does the user want?"
"And that will result in more special events for the users being able to actually have a spot in the restaurant."

instead of creating a pitch deck, write a letter to a friend that you haven't caught up with in a while and is a tech generalist without your industry expertise, explaining what you're building and why you're excited about it
The Arch Manning quote came out the same day as the @Wired story abt the online mobs sexually shaming college women.
The two are related.
The same culture that made AM *not think twice* abt sharing that thought in a *press conference,* is the one that created those mobs
I’m legit trying to picture the bureaucratic policy review meeting, where they got to the bestiality clause, and someone piped up and said: “maybe we should rethink this.”
.@wired: Why did you call a 19yo a "girl" — esp since one of the perps was 19 & you called him a "man"
This is the kind of subtle demeaning of women that creates the climate that leads to assaults like the one on M

Great story, but still work to do in-house
The choice is confusing since you v easily could have written:
"A College Student Was
Exploited on Camera. A
Network of Anonymous
Men Got to Work"
How did that even slip thru?
@wired @ejdickson
Here's what this is abt for those not yet up-to-speed (came out today)
Amazing story & extraordinary reporting

Periodic reminder that this requires a spouse who's managing all domestic tasks.
He talks abt spending time w his kids. But he doesn't talk abt meal planning, grocery shopping, dealing w doctors visits, managing rels w the school, planning playdates....
Steve Kerr says Roger Federer taught his Warriors team the secret to sustained success wasn’t outworking everyone, it was building a life around your craft you never want to escape from
“I’ll tell you a great story about Roger Federer. We were playing in China with the Warriors in 2017. Roger was in Shanghai for the Masters tournament, so we invited him to come speak to the team.”
“Draymond Green asked him, ‘How do you sustain success? How have you managed to win majors 20 years after you first won one?’ Everyone was expecting him to say, ‘I work harder than everybody,’ the will, all the clichés.”
“Roger Federer says, ‘I get up every morning and I make breakfast for my kids. Then I take them to school and drop them off. Then I go practice tennis for about two hours, and I’ve figured out a really good routine where I don’t destroy my body, but I can get all the work in I need.”
“‘Then I go have lunch with my wife. In the evening, we cook dinner together. The kids are all home from school. We ask them about school. There’s so much joy in the house. We put them to bed, and then I put my head on the pillow and go, “Man, that was just a great day.” And I’ve been doing that for 20 years.’”
“And it was like, yes. That’s it. That’s the formula. That’s what leads to sustained success. He loves tennis. He loves his family. He loves life. It’s not outworking everybody and banging your head against the wall, ‘I’m going to be better than everybody.’ It’s allowing your natural talent to shine through with a work ethic, with a great family life, with perspective, with peace, with mindfulness.”
“It’s perspective. It’s joy. It’s passion. It’s mindfulness. It’s an awareness that we are truly lucky. To get the most out of ourselves, it’s our daily rituals and experiences and love and joy.”
You are Gloria Steinem’s legacy
She did her work so that every one of you could lead the lives you wanted
Seeing all of us go out into the world & make our own choices & shape our own paths brought her joy every day and confirmed her work had been worth it
She is proud of you
A few things that would make people feel vibrant & “with it”—and wanting to keep working instead of retiring the second they can:
- Health insurance that doesn’t deny needed healthcare
- Reasonable amt of sick days & PTO
- Being paid enuf to buy a house
- Affordable day care
People who question why the Betty White ad didn’t get the same rxn as the Callaway/Good one don’t understand it wasn’t only abt the body slam
It was also the menace in his face & voice as he stood over her
Too many women recognized that combo of things from their own lives
“Kids”? The CEO is 40. The rest are full grown adults.
I think one thing that people are kind of just choosing to gloss over for the most part here is that the Good Good kids are idiots. Recently they have posted things showing themselves getting kicked out of AirBnB’s, they scream constantly on the golf course, and their entire brand is tacky. It has been on a downside. This dumb gaffe with the driver ad was just a really opportune chance for the corporations to cut ties. For the most part the golfing populace is saying good riddance because they’re the figureheads of everything that’s hated in the modern golf landscape.
20 students could take that money, rent their own place, & throw their own parties for the year
