Hiro is joining OpenAI!
For 13 years, I’ve been on a mission to make personal finance suck less. At Digit, I helped millions of Americans save over $9 billion. At Hiro, we built an AI personal CFO and helped clients plan for and manage over $1 billion in assets.
I’m excited to continue that mission at @OpenAI.
I'm grateful to our team, our investors, and especially the customers who trusted us. Building Hiro has been a privilege.
We started Hiro with the vision of building an AI personal CFO. Joining @OpenAI gives us the chance to pursue that vision at a much greater scale.
Important dates:
- Today: Hiro is no longer accepting new signups
- April 20, 2026: The product will stop working, but data export will remain available
- May 13, 2026: All user data will be deleted from our servers
Existing users can export their data from the Settings page in Hiro’s web app.
Thank you for trusting us with your time, feedback, and finances. Building for you was a privilege. We hope to serve you again through what we build next at OpenAI.
There is a giant opportunity to help the people in your community benefit from AI.
- Help small businesses of all shapes and sizes implement AI to: acquire and retain customers, save money, deliver a higher quality service
- Help individuals and families apply AI in their lives to: unlock creativity, learn new skills, or just get comfortable with the basics
There might even be potential for a new large scale trusted brand here. Think Best Buy Genius Bar but for AI.
Who’s doing this?
I love hearing from people like @ArkStabler who are using OpenClaw to help businesses grow
But I REALLY love hearing that he helps people like Donna become OpenClaw power users
This is so rad.
You can now fully manage your Mercury account from within ChatGPT!
This includes making payments and transferring money.
All transfers still require final approve from within Mercury.
Fun collab!
Props to the Mercury team on a great ChatGPT plugin 🙌
1/ Starting today you can take actions on your @Mercury business and personal accounts right from your agent (ChatGPT/Claude/etc) via the MCP.
Our MCP already let you ask questions about your accounts.* Now it can move money too (with your approval).
Today’s my 6-month anniversary at OpenAI.
Joining was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Hearing how everyone is using Finances in ChatGPT to save money, feel more in control, and make decisions about their lives is incredibly rewarding.

This is pretty insane.
I had ChatGPT audit all my transactions.
It spent almost an hour, reviewed 14k transactions, and improved 700 categories!
I could never do this by hand.
This is on top of categorization ChatGPT and Plaid already do in the background for all your transactions.
The implication is important: if you want to keep a budget or track your spending you no longer need to do manual work!
Getting near perfect transaction categorization has been an unsolved problem since Quicken launched in 1984.
The prompt you can use is in the screenshot.
And if you’re still doing this stuff by hand, and don’t enjoy it, you should get set up with Finances in ChatGPT.
Starting today, Finances in ChatGPT is available in the US across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro. You no longer need a paid subscription to use it!
This one means a lot to me.
When I started @hellodigit back in 2012, it was a free financial chatbot that automatically saved money for you. The goal was to help as many people as possible.
As Digit grew, we needed to charge to make the business sustainable. We went on to help people save over $9 billion. I'm proud of that. But charging also put the product out of reach for people we wanted to help.
Making Finances in ChatGPT available for free feels like another chance to deliver on what I wanted to do from the beginning.
Getting high quality financial assistance has historically been a privilege reserved for the wealthy.
But getting financial help that takes your own situation into account shouldn't depend on being able to pay for it!
Now you can connect your financial accounts to ChatGPT and get help grounded in your own numbers, without a paid subscription.
This allows anyone in the US to get help thinking through big and small decisions with your own numbers in front of you:
- What are you paying in fees and interest, and where could you save?
- What would taking on college debt mean for your future?
- How can you afford that first house and/or what would you have to give up to buy it?
- Would a career change work financially for you and your family?
There's still so much shit work that comes with modern banking, finance, and credit. We have a lot more to build to help people get back the time, money, and energy it takes from them. Removing the subscription barrier is a big step toward reaching more of the people who want help.
And for our international friends, we haven't forgotten about you. We are working to open up access in more markets. Stay tuned!
Lastly thank you to everyone who's tried Finances, shared feedback, and pushed us to make it better. Keep it coming.
Onward!

Finances + Voice: a big step closer to being the best personal financial assistant. Talk to Chat about anything related to your money, questions, explorations, what changed, where you can save money etc...
Stock watchlists: the easiest way to stay up to date on the stocks you want to follow.
@Finances add Nvidia, Microsoft and Berkshire to my watchlist.
dots are really freaking good.
Major props to the team.
Thank you for all your late nights 🙏
I’m impressed how this insane project with lots of twists and turns came together so beautifully. Classic OpenAI execution.
Onward!
Please do Treasury Direct next! 🙏 @shl
TreasuryDirect.gov is convoluted and hard to use, it’s out of reach for most people. It doesn’t have to be this way.
Make it free and easy for all Americans to get high yield AND participate in funding their government!
Chief economist at Apollo doesn’t understand consumers.
Consumers want instant money movement in and out of checking. Sadly this doesn’t exist if you keep your savings at another bank (RTP only supports out).
Consumers want a name brand they can trust with their life savings.
These are the 2 biggest reasons Chase has $1T in deposits even though 98% of it could be earning 350x the yield.
Agents don’t change any of this.
Finances + Voice is live!
You can now talk about your money with ChatGPT.
My favorite use right now is reviewing recent spending and my stock watchlist on my morning commute.
Later this month, will do our families monthly review over Voice 😍
We heard you loud and clear. ChatGPT Voice can now:
- Use plugins like your email, calendar, and Slack.
- Be powered by GPT-6 Astra, Sol, and Luna.
- Be used in ChatGPT Work on web and mobile, so you can create docs, decks, sites, and spreadsheets or tackle complex tasks in the browser, just by talking.
Rolling out globally today in the latest version of the app.
