Noticing something intriguing about Genesis’ patriarchal narratives:
Abraham’s story marked by trees. Isaac’s by wells. Jacob’s by flocks. Joseph’s by grain.
The promise takes root; life wells up in the land; the flock multiplies; thru the seed, bread goes to the nations.

I think I've been reading Jonah's fish vomit all wrong. 🧵
After Jonah's prayer, the great fish "vomited Jonah onto dry land." Not hurled. Not deposited. "Vomited." Not even the great fish can stomach this prophet. That's part of the comedy. 1/6
Why? Because Jonah is upside-down world. This Israelite prophet who receives the judgment of Egyptian Pharaoh, needs to get on dry land. Dry land is where humanity is safe. Think Noah. Red Sea. Jordan River. So how does the LORD do it? Through vomit. 5/6
