The GRU hacked into Jared Kushner's iPhone. Dutch military intelligence (MIVD) then recruited a GRU spy who gave them access to the hacked phone. What MIVD discovered was that Kushner had access to two bank accounts --one Azerbaijani, the other Israeli --where Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emirati ruler Mohammed bin Zayed deposited money. It sounds like a slightly far-fetched episode of "Slow Horses," but it's real. And it proves just how eye-poppingly corrupt this administration was and continues to be as its "special envoy" decides the fate of tens of millions in Europe in the Middle East. Simply incredible reporting by Matthew Cole, drawn from his new book on Kushner. vanityfair.com/story/jared-k…

Zelenskyy: "When our strikes reached Yandex data centers, it suddenly became little easier to breathe on many social media platforms. Many people noticed it. There was less hate, less division, fewer provocations because there were fewer bots. It's pretty clear where those bots were coming from. If they disappeared when Yandex went offline, this proves once again that Europe is not the source of the problems." The big problem is that Russia figured out how modern society consumes information a decade ago, but the West hasn't. There are millions of bots commenting and posting Russian propaganda. There are paid influencers spreading it, with Russian bots supporting their content. There is a gigantic machine operating to radicalize and influence Western societies, and there is not enough defense in place. It doesn't just influence elections, it sows discord, engulfs societies in culture wars, radicalizes teenagers, and shapes political decisions when elected officials fail to read the room. That needs to change. And fast.

It sucks that a huge part of being a successful designer and getting jobs is being well-known. There are so many talented individuals who can’t get a job just because they didn’t shitpost their way to gaining a huge following.

It’s no longer possible to live a decent, even middle class life in the US without being neurodivergent You’ve either gotta be an autist with preternatural technical ability, or have hyperfunctional ADHD such that you can massively multitask, or have an artistic or mathematical gift In other words, you have to be an extreme outlier on at least one scale, because first globalization and now AI have completely gutted the middle of every normal distribution of humans that exists Your ability to generate economic value now depends on being β€œout of the distribution” in some way. This is why the weird are inheriting the earth

I adore The Odyssey but I am recalcitrant to pay Christopher Nolan to make a shitshow of it
I had a great time with the Rest is History crowd at the weekend (see below). If you want a deep dive into the Odyssey in prep for the movie, try our Instant Classics bookclub, where we're reading the poem from start to finish: instantclassics.supportingca…

Interesting take!
We need a counter-culture design movement that appreciates products that are difficult to use initially, but tremendously fast, easy, accurate, explicit and efficient after topping the learning curve. Ease-of-use is oversold. It's making everything suboptimal and slow.

We need a Pauline Kael for pop music. Critics need to get genuinely mean again so we can have a little perspective for once

Like I said before you were born - to feed parameters into an AI model is to make a machine that looks backwards
β€œAn LLM which, however amazing you might find it to be, is trained on yesterday, is at some point going to run into problems inventing tomorrow.” Johnathan and Melissa Nightingale discuss how AI agents are winding their way through the workforceβ€”but can’t replace creative humans: theatln.tc/SaVv6fPI

I went to see Project Hail Mary. Great movie, I highly recommend it. The less you know about it going in, the better. Trust me. The guy in front of me in the theater brought his dog in to see the movie with him. I think it was a service animal. But the dog really seemed to be enjoying the movie, it was strange. So I said to the guy afterwards, "I know this is going to sound strange, but it seemed like your dog really enjoyed the movie." He said, "It is strange. He hated the book."

β€œI have come here from America to warn you about foreign meddling in the election.” Fuck, he’s not the sharpest tool in the junk drawer, is he?
JD Vance, while in Budapest to campaign for Viktor Orban, not even 10 min after stating that Viktor Orban must absolutely be re-elected: "We want you to make a decision about your future with no outside forces pressuring you or telling you what to do."

It’s a word prediction engine based on mathematical probability. It doesn’t think, it’s not God, it won’t make you rich, it β€œknows” nothing.
This is absolutely crazy. Anthropic trained a model that is "dramatically" smarter than Claude Opus 4.6. Think about how good Opus already is. Can you even imagine what a far better model might be able to accomplish? The world is changing, and it's changing fast. Buckle up.

My only After Effects tip is that you can have multiple AE projects open if you add -m at the end of the target path in AE properties because I'm not wasting 5min for my files to save, close, open when I just need to check one expression I did in an old project
