“Work isn’t supposed to be fun,” “medicine is supposed to taste bad,” “life is supposed to be hard.” Why? Says who? We’ve been brainwashed into believing life is supposed to be miserable but it doesn’t have to be. That’s the whole point of advancement: to make life suck less.

I don't know which employer needs to hear this, but it's not your employees' responsibility to work twice as hard just because you've decided not to hire enough people to get the job done

trunk or treat is the worst thing to happen to Halloween. you're supposed to run from door to door, stumbling over unfamiliar terrain in the dark with a pillowcase full of candy. not picking it out of the trunk of someone's RAV4 in a parking lot
and be careful, you very much can become chronically ill with a nervous system that’s stuck in survival mode. ask me how I know.
People who spend long periods of time at home and slowly lose the desire to go outside often think they're just resting. But psychologically, many of them are experiencing something called mental rumination. It's a state where the brain starts slowing down while the number of thoughts inside keeps increasing and the motivation to do anything slowly disappears. The mind gets stuck in the past, worries about the future and burns itself out. This isn't laziness, it's a nervous system stuck in survival mode. And the longer it lasts, the more distant normal life begins to feel. And the difficult part is that you usually can't escape it through one massive burst of motivation. And sometimes, recovery starts with just one small step.
