In 1970, Meir Kahane stood at UCLA and laid out what was coming. 56 years ago he predicted exactly what is happening right now. He said the extreme left and the extreme right would both turn on Jews, but they would hide it behind the word “Zionist.” He said the left would treat Israel as the enemy of the day and use that as cover for attacking Jews. He said the right would do the same under different slogans, blaming Jews for everything wrong in their own lives. He talked about the protests, the campus hatred, the way people would pretend they only had a problem with “Zionism” while going after Jews. Fifty-six years later, almost every word of it is here. The same campuses. The same slogans. The same insistence that “Zionist” doesn’t mean Jew, right up until someone is assaulted or a synagogue is hit or a student is chased for being openly Jewish, or two Jews are murdered outside a museum in Washington or a Holocaust survivor is burned alive in Boulder, Colorado. The same people who spent decades saying it could never happen in America or the West are watching it happen in fro t of them, and yet they’re still calling it something else. He wasn’t always popular then. He isn’t necessarily popular now. But the speech is on tape, and yet again, Kahane was right.
