Tomorrow at 2:30 PM PT, we pull the plug on the grid. No end date.
Just the sun, @Tesla Powerwall + Powershare, and stubbornness to see how long we can last. ☀️🔋
We built a live leaderboard, so you can watch every minute of it.

My setup:
☀️ 14 kW solar
🔋 2 Powerwalls (27 kWh)
⚡ Cybertruck with Powershare @teslaenergy
🚙 Model Y
Late October here in Idaho means short days, gray skies, and cold nights.
Going head to head with @PatchesHQ and @JoshuaThePilot.
Tomorrow at 4:30 PM CT, my home is unplugging from the grid. No end date. ⚡️
✈️ I'm an airline pilot, gone 3–4 days at a time, so my wife holds down the fort with our 6-year-old, 2 bulldogs, and a tank full of fish.
My setup:
☀️ 20.3kW solar (50 panels)
🔋 1 Powerwall 3 + 3 Powerwall 3 expansions (54 kWh)
⚡ Cybertruck with Powershare (110 kWh usable, 10% limit)
🔌 Total storage: 164 kWh
🚙 2026 Model Y for my commute
Part of a team of Tesla owners taking on the challenge with @ericdmann and @PatchesHQ 👊

How long do you think we last? 👇 @Tesla @Tesla_Energy
Pretty cool how good @bot is at random tasks.
Here's a look at the trees I dropped yesterday.
I snagged two timelapses of the general time period from our Unifi Protect system - then told Grok to align & combine them. Bada-bing!
More sun on the panels, too ☀️

This is why I purchased a Foundation Series CT. It has powered our home through Hurricane Milton and numerous power outages. That piece of mind is so valuable, especially when you have the number of animals we have and require power for running water.
9 Powerwalls worth of energy storage for the cost of 5, and you get a free self-driving truck with it!
@cybertruck is the deal of the century.

I want this too! we’re going to do an “immersive” view for Powerwall in a few weeks, it’s not the main release so we could finish up some final polish but coming quickly after
Now this is awesome!
Will have to put this on my iPad acting as my little command + control dashboard next to my Powerwalls.

It’s awesome working with an inspiring team of Tesla designers and engineers including @ianzelbo @SMSeddy @iriscleung @Skdvnn_ @UIbyAdam, and the all of the other UI engineers across Tesla (who’s X accounts I don’t know 😅)
it took a village to get this done
🎵I've been thinking 'bout the meaning of resistance
Of a hope beyond my own
And suddenly, the infinite and penitent
Begin to look like home🎵

87+ hours off-grid, and we’re still going!
Yesterday brought a surprise sunny day after an overcast forecast.
🚨 We uncovered our first issue in the system! Something is preventing us from capturing all the available sun into the Powerwalls or home usage. Even well below 50% charge, solar generation is erratic and jumpy. The screenshot shows the Powerwall discharging mid-day, in full sun, to cover home loads while we’re generating under 2 kW of solar. A few minutes earlier, that number was well over 8 kW.
Tesla and our installer are both looking into it, but you can see how much sun was missed under the curve! Hoping for a fix soon!
🔋 Pretty incredible that even with this issue, we haven’t had to touch Powershare on the @cybertruck. That’s all built into my own energy automation system, which predicts 7+ days of off-grid capacity even with the incoming forecast. We shall see 😎
🚗 We added a mileage tracker to the leaderboard, so you can see how much each of us has driven as part of the overall energy demand picture.

Rain and clouds are in the forecast, plus upcoming travel. Probably a good thing, because so far @teslaenergy has made this too easy!

Tonight, after 3 Days and 4+ hours I become the first one to connect back to the grid….but not because of the reasons you’re thinking.
I will be willingly connecting back to the grid with over 80% battery still available on my Powerwalls.
Reason for connecting back to the grid: We need to charge our 3 Tesla’s during off-peak hours at the full charge rate. Being off grid for extended periods of time does not give us the charging freedom we are used to especially when it comes to charge rate.
This weekend 5 @Tesla enthusiasts embarked on a competition to put their Tesla Home energy systems to the test and see how long they could go without the grid. They organized and launched this completely on their own.
Their goal is to see how long they can go without compromising on their usual energy usage and behaviors. The systems range from smaller to bigger, include @teslaenergy Powerwall, Powershare from their vehicles, and solar. They’re located in: California, Idaho, Canada, Illinois, and Texas and these adventurers have already passed 41 hours.
Follow along and see how these Tesla Home energy systems perform in the real world.

I did end up unplugging our backup Starlink connection. Roughly 30w saved 😂
Pulling out the stops! A good opportunity to take out a couple more trees that were causing midmorning shade.
Here are some angles showing Cyberhookie next to the official Tesla Cybertruck bed -- my goal was to match the look as close as possible so that you can mix & match and still have a consistent look & feel.
