For the record, lecturing an Augustinian Pope on the meaning of the Just War theory first promulgated by St. Augustine is not going to end well. 🤦‍♂️
🚨 BREAKING: Mike Johnson says the Pope deserved what happened to him: "Any religious leader has the right to say whatever they want, but obviously, if you wade into politics, you should expect a political response, and I think the Pope has gotten some of that. I was a little surprised by his statement that 'warriors don't hear Jesus' prayers' or something like that. There's something called the 'Just War' doctrine."

This is extremely poor. The opposition bloc is not centrist leaning and definitely not left leaning. It contains some very right wing candidates. In temrs of policy regarding Palestinians there is little difference at all
The BBC’s Middle East correspondent frames the Israeli elections as Netanyahu against “leftist” and “centrist” figures like Eisenkot, whom she describes as “softly spoken” and “lowkey”. What she leaves out is that he’s a former general and the architect of the Dahiyeh Doctrine, which calls for disproportionate force and deliberate targeting of civilians and their infrastructure. In what world is that left wing?

A British drone company backed by MoD funding is now owned by a US defence group whose defence arm is led by former Mossad chief David Barnea. That same group is developing attack drones for Israel. My investigation for @BylineTimes: bylinetimes.com/2026/10/26/m…

Two Muslim families have guarded and operated the doors of Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre—one of Christianity's holiest sites—for more than 850 years to keep the peace between competing Christian denominations... . . . For more than 800 years, two Muslim families in Jerusalem have held a unique responsibility at one of Christianity's holiest churches. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is believed to contain the site where Jesus was crucified and the tomb where he was buried. Yet the responsibility for its keys and doors belongs to families who follow a different religion. The tradition is commonly traced to 1187, when the Muslim ruler Saladin took control of Jerusalem. The church is shared by multiple Christian denominations (including Greek Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox, and Roman Catholics). Giving the keys to any single Christian group would cause fierce arguments over ownership. According to the families' accounts, the Joudeh family was entrusted with the church's keys, while the Nuseibeh family became responsible for opening and closing its doors. This arrangement helped maintain neutrality among the different Christian denominations that share the church. • The Joudeh Al-Husseini Family: Holds the official, ancient iron key to the church, keeping it safe in their home. • The Nuseibeh Family: Physically carries the key each day to unlock and lock the massive wooden doors. . . . The responsibility has been passed down through generations. The Joudeh family safeguards the large iron key, while a member of the Nuseibeh family uses it to unlock the church's heavy wooden doors. The arrangement has become a remarkable example of cooperation between Muslims and Christians, preserving a tradition that has lasted for centuries. The church's ancient iron key measures about 30 centimeters long. Opening the doors involves climbing a small wooden ladder to reach the upper lock. Even the ladder used in the ceremony is part of a carefully maintained tradition among the church's Christian communities. Every morning (around 4:00 AM in winter and 5:00 AM in summer) and evening, the families work with rotating Christian clergy to ceremonially open and close the heavy doors. This centuries-old tradition remains an active symbol of interfaith cooperation. #archaeohistories

This is a very important and very thoughtful analysis of occupied East Jerusalem in the context of Israeli elections, in which the Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem are barred from voting.

.@CIJ_ICJ in July 2024: "all the States parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention have the obligation... to ensure compliance by Israel with international humanitarian law". Full and comprehensive embargo now! @Ed_Miliband
The ICJ found Israel's occupation unlawful. It must end. Until then, under int'l law, Palestinians have the right to resist it through lawful means. Israel shall protect its youth by ending the colonial project that traps many of them in committing atrocity crimes.

Today Israeli authorities barred me and other European elected representatives from entering the West Bank to meet Palestinian students and civil society leaders, as part of a @ProgIntl delegation. We knew that by crossing into the occupied Palestinian territories, we risked being detained, interrogated and turned away by Israeli authorities. And that, alas, is exactly what happened. For more than eight hours, we were held, interrogated and made to feel as though we had done something wrong simply by attempting to enter. The simple truth is we had done nothing wrong. We went to show our support for the Palestinian people and highlight the terrible injustice and violence being perpetrated against them. We want to ensure that people back home do not look away from the reality of what is happening. Ultimately, we went to show solidarity. But we left with an even greater determination to speak out. We will not be silenced, and we will not look away. None of us should.

I have joined Birmingham Labour colleagues in writing to the Council Leader. Green cabinet members must publicly disown their party’s “Zionism is Racism” motion. If they refuse, the power sharing agreement must end. Standing against racism requires leadership and action. 👇🏽

No, the Dahiye Doctrine he coauthored is much more than this: it represents an outright war crime. It also regards civilians in “supportive areas” as legitimate targets. It’s not just about blowing up buildings; it’s focused on eliminating people, non combatants, as well.
Gadi Eisenkot is the father of the so-called Dahyeh Doctrine used against southern suburbs of Beirut in '06: disproportionate retaliation and destruction of civilian infrastructure to establish deterrence. Then used in Gaza.

Do I have this right? In the lead up to October 7th: - The Israeli government funds Hamas to the tune of billions of dollars. - The Israeli government ignores warnings from IDF spotters up to 2 years in advance of Oct 7. - The Israeli government ignores the entire Jericho Wall blueprint for the Al Aqsa Flood operation they acquired at least a year in advance. - The Israeli government ignores Qatar’s warning of the impending attack by Hamas. - The Israeli government ignores Egypt’s warning of the impending attack by Hamas. - The Israeli government ignores the US intelligence warning of the impending attack by Hamas. - The Israeli government ignores the public postings showing Hamas training for the attack. - The Israeli government moves the IDF away from the Gaza wall in the days leading up to Oct 7. - Once the attack begins, the Israeli government does not send the military in for several hours despite the IDF having military bases nearby and being “one of the most advanced militaries in the world.” - Once they send the IDF in, the Israeli government orders the military to kill everyone including innocent Israelis (a mass Hannibal Directive). Of the roughly 1,200 Israelis killed, most were likely killed by Israel. - When Hamas offers to free all civilian hostages on the first day following the attack with nothing in return, the Israeli government refuses to accept the hostages.

The essence of Zionism: replacing Palestinians with Jews in Palestine. Since the essence of the project is evil, Zionism must be done quietly. It's been a core principle of the movement since its origin. Doing Zionism quietly, a 🧵: xitter.cf/_ZachFoster/status/169…
I’ll never forget learning how settlers came into Hebron. Occupying an entire hotel, after lying to the owner that they were Swiss tourists. The mendacity is unparalleled.

This is the moment Channel 4 News Foreign Affairs Correspondent Secunder Kermani was charged at by a group of Israeli settlers in the Occupied West Bank. The settlers have laid siege to a Palestinian home, while nearby Israeli soldiers keep watch but do not intervene. Violent attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank have risen dramatically over the past two years, while Israel's government has approved a record number of new settlements.

The reality of IHRA in the NHS: Wes Streeting brought it in after a group that began as the Israel Medical Association's British branch asked for it, and gave the review to Lord Mann, who had just chaired the Board of Deputies' own commission. Mann's review then recommended what his commission for the Board had already proposed. What we found: - The Jewish Medical Association asked Streeting in December 2024 for IHRA and for "symbols, posters, signs, clothing" to be kept out of the NHS, its own newsletter says. It was registered as the Israel Medical Association British Fellowship, and its charitable aims make it "the link association" with the Israel Medical Association. - Streeting met the Board of Deputies that month "To discuss antisemitism in the NHS", his department's records show. Its constitution commits it to "advance Israel's security, welfare and standing". - Mann's commission for the Board called for antisemitism training in every NHS trust and a ban on staff "attire". The Board says his NHS review "reinforce[s]" it. - In October 2025 Streeting asked NHS England to adopt IHRA, and it did the next day. None of Mann's 36 recommendations says to adopt it, yet NHS England asked every NHS organisation to confirm by 31 July whether it had. Then we followed the money: - The Antisemitism Policy Trust runs Mann’s office on £420,000 in four uncompeted government grants, according to the government’s own grants data. It ran the review’s secretariat, the review recommends its IHRA guide, and it sells antisemitism training, as the review tells the NHS to train all 1.5 million staff. - Sir Trevor Chinn, on the executive committee of the pro-Israel lobby group BICOM, according to the Jewish Leadership Council, has given Streeting £33,250 since 2021, two donations while he was Health Secretary. He gave £5,000 to Mann's local party and funded Mann’s antisemitism work through Mann’s company. - Labour Friends of Israel paid £4,700 for Streeting's trip to Israel. Israel's foreign ministry paid for Mann's trip to Jerusalem. This matters because the IHRA definition treats some criticism of Israel as antisemitic, and NHS England has urged every trust to adopt it. It now lands on nurses and doctors: UK Lawyers for Israel, which says it supports Israel "using their legal skills", complained to at least eight NHS trusts over Palestine badges, lanyards and flags, and Barts banned political symbols after its complaints. The same group asks the World Medical Association to protect the Israel Medical Association, and asks NHS trusts to stop British nurses wearing a Palestine badge. We mapped every link, each with its source: newscord.org/editorials/who-…
