Posts, rants and info about the challenges heading for Europe & Europeans: demography, bureaucracy & security. Let’s reform Europe @AveEuropae

The algorithm here is now aggressively advertising Ozempic to me with pictures of overweight people and quotes like „you’re not alone in your fight against obesity“. Well damn, you didn’t have to be *that* harsh, I got the memo 😞!! (My wife agrees with the algo)

It’s a great meme but it should definitely become the objective of everyone on the right. If you want to heavily curtail migration and repatriate those who broke the law while here, it will be easier if you look like a standard, nice, maybe-slightly-boring liberal bureaucrat.
POV: The last thing you see before immigration into your country is reduced but in a liberal and progressive-coded way

Thankfully we’re installing solar panels (made in China) so climate change will soon be over.
China consumed more coal in the last four years (2022–2025) than the entire world consumed throughout the 19th century.

“So much of what they’ve loved about working in technology has been the process of tinkering and learning as they build. For some, shipping was secondary.” Yeah dude… if your main objective wasn’t to ship a working, useful system, maybe it’s good if AI replaces you?
In conversations with some technical founders and leaders in transition, I’m noticing existential angst around AI. For many builders, AI is intoxicating and empowering. They can build things they only dreamed of. But for some of the people I’m talking with, that excitement is overshadowed by a deep sense of loss. So much of what they’ve loved about working in technology has been the process of tinkering and learning as they build. For some, shipping was secondary. The satisfaction came from working through complexity, figuring things out, and getting better along the way. They don’t feel the same sense of exploration through prompting and waiting for the black box to spit out an answer, lines of code, or even an app. It’s like having an employee do the part they loved while they wait for the results. Yes, they can build faster, but they feel removed from the work itself. That’s left them befuddled and grieving. I suspect more workers will experience a meaning crisis as AI takes over parts of the work they loved. And they’ll need support finding their way through it.

On my 2 years Xanniversary, I passed 6000 followers. I got to 5000 within my first year, but I’ve considerably slowed down since. I got a new job which is more demanding (but also much more interesting) and now of course the kid… Anything that keeps me busy irl is good…
2 years on this platform, already feels like an eternity. Even if most of the interactions here are garbage, just a few interesting and nice people make up for it because intellectual debate has mostly disappeared from daily life.

Bring up a complex issue when having a good moment with friends and you’re often labelled a “party pooper” or told to “just relax”. In my case it’s a bit better within my family but still… not as good as the few good mutuals I have here.

One of the things I’ve noticed from the replies to both this post and the replies to my comment on it is that many people don’t give a f*ck how demonstrably functional a country is. A Danish socialist will literally write that Denmark is not “redistributing that wealth well enough” while a Danish capitalist will complain about “communist-like taxes” (those are actual quotes). A pro-immigration Dane will complain about the “fear oriented” migration system and an anti-migration Dane will say his country is getting “invaded”. Very few people are interested in discussing good ideas or potential further improvements.

lol can you imagine how goated the Danish economy would have been is they hadn’t gone anti-nuclear in the 80s.
Fun fact: Sweden has four nuclear reactors that have each generated more electricity than all Danish wind turbines ever. Forsmark 3 and Oskarshamn 3 started in 1985, the year Denmark banned nuclear. Both still ahead of Denmark’s entire wind fleet.

It’s funny because normally it’s the business community that is non-ideological-pragmatic and the politicians that are ideological-crazies but the Danes went like…

… and 12% GDP current account surplus… without being a tax haven… sometimes I feel like they’re cheating or something.

“What is PHP” LMAO 😂 Believe me guys: you don’t want to know!
AI found a critical vulnerability in PHP. European hospitals and government websites started going offline to patch it. PHP powers a huge share of the web. We may have just entered the age where AI finds catastrophic bugs faster than humans can patch them.

Yesterday I went from right to left in *1 second* by dropping a pan in the sink while doing the dishes.
