Hello and welcome to Farmbuzz Agriculture Technologies. At Farmbuzz, our main role is farm management. We help farmers and investors plan, establish, manage and monitor their agricultural projects from the initial planning stage through to harvest. Before we start working on your farm, our first step is to conduct a farm feasibility study. We need to visit the farm and assess whether the conditions are suitable and commercially viable for potato production. This assessment will cover key areas such as: • Soil analysis and suitability • Irrigation and water availability • Farm infrastructure • Land suitability and field conditions • Accessibility and other farm requirements • Any other factors that may affect successful potato production After the feasibility study, we will prepare a comprehensive Agribusiness Plan for the project. This plan will give you a clear picture of what is required from planning right through to harvesting, including: • Detailed potato production budgets • Required investment/capital • Inputs and quantities required • Land preparation and irrigation requirements • Labour and operational requirements • A step-by-step production programme • Estimated production and revenue • Projected returns on investment • Costs attached to each stage of production The aim is to make sure that before you invest your money, you clearly understand what needs to be done, how much it will cost, how the project will be managed and what returns can potentially be achieved. Once the planning and feasibility stage is complete, Farmbuzz can then move on to implementation and farm management, where we assist you on the ground with executing the plan, monitoring the crop and managing the production process up to harvest. The feasibility study and agribusiness planning phase require a once-off payment. Once we commence the actual farm management and implementation, you will then pay a monthly management subscription fee, together with the applicable transport costs for farm visits. Potato Production Profitability At present, potatoes are one of the most profitable crops to grow due to their strong and reliable market demand. With proper crop management—including the use of certified quality seed, effective pest and disease control, adequate fertilizer application, and a well-designed irrigation system—it is possible to achieve yields of more than 40,000 kg per hectare. Under favourable market conditions, potatoes can be sold at US$0.40 to US$0.60 per kilogram, which is approximately US$6.00 to US$9.00 per 15 kg pocket, depending on the prevailing market price. This makes potato production a highly rewarding enterprise for farmers who manage the crop efficiently. However, potato production requires a significant upfront investment. A budget of approximately US$6,000 per hectare is recommended to establish the crop successfully. This is because potatoes are heavy feeders that require high fertilizer inputs, and certified seed potatoes are relatively expensive. Despite these costs, the potential returns make potatoes an attractive investment when managed using best agronomic practices.
