A lot of people in the UK have accepted that it’s hard to see a doctor for a “minor” illness or injury and some even act as if they are morally superior to those who do try to be seen for “minor” issues. I’m not talking about a common cold but a suspected chest infection, a knee injury or fatigue that has lasted for months. In a country with a functional healthcare system, you should be able to see a doctor about these concerns. You shouldn’t have to be on the verge of death to be seen. The social contract between citizens and the state is completely broken when taxpayers, their children and retired people who paid taxes their whole working lives can’t access the service that they fund. It’s an extra kick in the teeth to be lectured that we’re all ungrateful whenever we complain that the “free” service doesn’t meet our expectations.

Politicians claim they want kids to master the basics... They need to look in the mirror -> security, health, education , and economy. Stop pissing in the wind
Wales does not need a new Human Rights Act. We do not need yet another layer of statutory duties. We have spent far too long on legislation like this which serves only to make the operation of government more sclerotic and allows a handful of politicians to grandstand.

What's a poor quality degree? For example I have frequently been approached to privately tutor students in "high quality degrees" at eminent universities- is that not poor quality degrees?
🚨🇬🇧 NEW: The UK Government has announced plans to withdraw funding from “poor quality degrees” [@FT]

Sometimes it makes me really sad/ angry that lots of people know that the disaster happened but the vast majority know nothing of the cruel aftermath and the families’ fights afterwards.

Plaid are entirely right that the last gov squandered a lot of their time in office. But increasingly the impression of the new government is of a debilitating lack of confidence in their own ideas, a culture of timidity and a really surprising fundamental conservatism.

Exactly- do we choose not to test a theory presented by a single scientist who can understand it- no... why would it be different if AI happens to come up with a theory... possibly through experiment and the grace of time we might come to better understand the phenomena.
Replying to @_yemre_t
I didn't say we shouldn't try to understand it. I am just saying there are limits to what humans can understand and we shouldn't let that limit science.

I personally believe that the loss of these types of TV shows has a lot bigger effect on our general scientific education than most other effects: youtube.com/watch?v=tm-gbnPh…

The more likely scenario is that a thruster fails whilst you're in a tunnel... Splattered across the roof.

Welsh politicians love to talk about the Basque Country. So worth pointing out that since 1999 the Basques have added 4x as much high-capacity road as Wales despite having a million fewer people (151km v 37km) Basque projects incl a 46km mountain motorway with 13km of tunnels

How much would we save on CEs too?
Wales could cut 530 councillors, save £11-14m a year and still have the same councillor per populaiton rate as Scotland.

Citycentric thinking. How about we start by punitive tariffs in the cities. Motorways should be for long distance travel and many in rural areas can't afford electric cars and have no viable public transport.
Replying to @markjhooper
What if the new M4 was tolled with more punitive tariffs for non electric vehicles...

Getting around a city shouldn't involve getting on a motorway - it's nuts.

Ken- wait till you hear about who's been giving millionaires in Wales free prescriptions for decades... to think I used to vote for you guys...
Plaid Cymru's plan to provide free childcare for millionaires comes straight from the Conservative Party handbook. It's not fair and it's not progressive.

This is really interesting- as I was reading Estyn reports (as you do) when choosing a primary school for my son there seemed to be a lot of nitpicking over things I wasn't really concerned about and very little about the things that really do concern me as a parent.
Replying to @RhysWilliamsTV
If you read school inspection reports in Wales you'll see plenty of criticisms of direct teaching. Look at this from one school a few months ago: estyn.gov.wales/app/uploads/… Improvements in reading and writing are praised but some activities are criticised as “overly directed by adults”. The evidence which proves less direction would help these particular children is unclear.
