no, no, it's alright, i guess i just really thought we'd all spend these weeks without ao3 on finding new creative ways to show fic writers appreciation for their craft instead of inventing different discourse shitting on them every six hours, but it's cool, really

not to be a dick but this is VERBATIM what hoardes of fic writers say when anything (usually untargeted writing advice) makes them feel insecure about their writing. it sucks but we are the architects of this mindset. stop doing this. writing's hard. take pride in your shit.
Every time an AO3-scraped site pops up and everyone starts issuing DMCAs or using the site’s forms to take their work down, I just rip my hair out.
Do not ever do this. It is almost ALWAYS an attempt to prey on your emotions to get your email or other data. Report to OTW and let them handle it.
OTW is on the case now, as it happens. Just breathe.
Alright so I have a question for those of us who want to post our fics on separate websites:
What webhosts allow explicit written content? I don’t want to build a site through one and get my site banned because I specialize in the weird shit.

Multiple things can be true at once. Fic writers can:
Want engagement from readers
Write for love of the game
Want their writing to take off so they get a book deal
Write fic as a hobby
Want to get paid/take commissions/table like artists do
Happily share work for free
But my GOD this hellsite is allergic to nuance. All of these are fine. One writer can embody ALL of them.
Anybody doing unofficial nanowrimo activities starting tomorrow? I’m thinking about doing it for the fest fic I’m working on, but kinda no fun to do it alone.

idk, maybe it's because i lived through the livejournal/ffnet/wattpad/tumblr/etc censorship purges, but people downloading their favorites fics for personal archival and sharing them when the originals are inaccessible has always been a huge part of keeping fandom culture alive
