Doing laundry at a neighborhood laundromat in Japan feels like stepping twenty years into the future.
First, you don't bring soap, and you don't sit on a plastic chair for forty minutes waiting to move wet clothes from a washer into a dryer so nobody touches your laundry.
You toss your dirty clothes into a single heavy-duty drum, tap a 4-digit PIN code onto the touchscreen to lock the glass door, and pay about $6 (900 yen).
The machine injects its own detergent, washes everything, and immediately switches into a high-powered gas dryer inside the exact same drum. You walk away for an hour to eat ramen and come back to hot, fluffy clothes locked safely behind your PIN.
Even better? Right in the corner sits a dedicated $1.30 (200 yen) sneaker washing machine with soft spiral nylon brushes inside the tub, paired with a twin-nozzle shoe dryer right above it.

I think I am officially done eating out at restaurants. The food is mediocre at best, it is expensive and customer service sucks. This is across the board. Covid ruined the restaurant scene.

You’re being attacked from every angle.
Test it for yourself. That cannot be good for you.

Some of the most morbid stories about Stephen King aren't in his books.
When he was about 4, King went out to play with a friend near the railroad tracks. He came home alone, speechless and in shock.
His family later learned that his friend had been hit and killed by a train. King has no memory of it.
In the 1980s, he did so much cocaine that he wrote with cotton swabs stuck up his nose to stop the bleeding. He barely remembers writing some of his books, including the 1981 classic Cujo.
Then, in 1999, while he was out for a walk in Maine, a distracted driver in a minivan hit him and threw him 14 feet into a ditch. Almost every bone on the right side of his body was broken.
While King was in the hospital, his wife bought the van so nobody could sell pieces of it as souvenirs. King planned to smash it with a sledgehammer. The van ended up in a car crusher.
The driver died a year later, on September 21, 2000. It was Stephen King's birthday.

Nobody talks about how we're all paying $15 for sandwiches now and just pretending that's normal. Five years ago that same sandwich was $8. The price doubled and the only explanation we got was "supply chain issues" which apparently means "forever."
