When drinking 🧃 on the wing, swifts brake (i.e. dissipate energy) to approach water at moderate speeds. This suggests that flight safety competes with energy saving.

Another car load of nest boxes for Save Our Suffolk Swifts from John Stimpson, I couldn’t quite squeeze enough in for one to be the 45,000th one he has now made. We have free Community Sets available for prominent elevations of public buildings @suffolkwildlife @SuffolkBirdGrp
Would anybody that has a copy of the Bird Atlas 2007-11 accept to send a picture of the pages on common swift ? This book is difficult to locate in France, and I just need to identify a reference within the text. Thanks a lot ! @bandbswifts @SheffSwiftNet @SoSSwifts

After years, I finally got the location & timing right to photograph California tiger salamanders underwater as they return to seasonal ponds to breed. I believe mine are the 1st images of adult wild CTS taken underwater.

🇬🇧The buffalo carpet beetle (Anthrenus scrophulariae), also known as the common carpet beetle, can retract its head and antennae into a recess in the pronotum. It is a feared visitor in the large insect collections of museums. Its larvae can eat through entire insect boxes and thus destroy valuable collections.

Donald Trump — the twice impeached former president, Jan. 6 coup leader, convicted felon, adjudicated sexual abuser, and man who mismanaged the 2020 economic implosion and coronavirus disaster that killed more than 1 million people in this country — has convinced American voters to give him another term in the White House.
