There are 1,440 minutes in a day. Social media wants as many of them as possible. We only want one. Introducing 9PM: A social visual diary.

Just shipped a feature that I absolutely love. At 9PM the whole app turns into a reveal. It shows who posted, who’s back, who didn’t, a peek at the content, and a funny little gossip-like summary. This screen is everything we believe in (your people first!), and our first step toward groups.

Was just watching a video of @FarzaTV saying "Twitter genuinely doesn't like vertical videos" the second after I posted this hah.

Most builders/investors have no understanding of what good consumer retention looks like, or how exceptional 25%+ D30 is. If you vibe code a social app, expect a nice red ZERO%. Even a16z’s own benchmarks classify 20% D30 OK, 25% Good, 30% Great. I once showed 56% W4 retention in an early cohort and it was dismissed as not good enough. What?!
Meta Muse's retention is out, and it's almost as good as ChatGPT! It's higher than ChatGPT at D7 (>30%) and just lower at D14 (22%). Not quite in the elite D14 tier of WA (67%) YT (59%) Insta (54%) or TikTok/Snap (37%), though. Muse is one of the highest retaining AI products!

Take more. Share more. Remember more. That’s probably the simplest reason we’re building 9PM.
My version of this: keep a journal!! Even if you're in the Marc Andreessen "no introspection" camp, just write down what's happening. You think you'll remember all the important, interesting, dramatic things, but it's amazing how blurry memories get with time.

A week ago, our little app was just @_a_lex_is, me, and a few close friends. Today there’s a 9PM across 3/4 of the world’s time zones. That’s wild. People are begging for innovation in social. We hear it, and we see it in the data. More importantly, we finally have a real base of people using it, leaving, coming back, and telling us what they love. Now we can really build with impact.

We got 9pm.app for $20.19. Not sure I’m mad about this.
There is always a .com you can get for $5k that's better the tryblurgh.‌ai you're currently using. The reason you don't see it is (a) lack of imagination and (b) because you're attached to Blurgh, which you shouldn't be, because it's not that great anyway.

This week I started doing something that feels amazing: I just call my friends. Try it :)

400k views, hundreds of messages, and thousands of downloads from our little video filmed with my buddy David. Zero paid. Zero tricks. Just a tweet to show my friends what we’ve been working on. Twitter is wild! Wayyyyyyy beyond what I expected.

Wow, I was not expecting this reception. Thank you for all the messages, feedback, and love. Since I tweeted this, @_a_lex_is has shipped 2 features (thanks Gaetan), fixed 3 bugs, and pushed 2 new internal builds, while I’m here welcoming our little community :) See you at 9PM.

BUTTTTTTTTTT AI??? We have tons of insights and experience building on passive data, and lots of ideas for what else could become part of your little daily 9PM entry. But I’ll keep that for another day.
