Saw firsthand how regulation accomplished nothing to safeguard rainforest in Brazil. Afraid these kind of actions are often the only way.
You know how Brazil reversed deforestation. It wasn’t a bunch of conservation tax incentives for farmers. IBAMA (Brazil’s equivalent of the EPA) airdrops shock troops to firebomb illegal logging and mining camps. Yanuni (2026)

A powerful confluence is happening among the bioregional weavers of Europe. We have been immersed in a tapestry of workshops and site visits here in the Netherlands for the last two days. Check out what we are doing. Be inspired. Get involved. Share with your friends. substack.com/home/post/p-220…

The ideal outcome for science isn't a couple of labs using proprietary models and millions of dollars to crack trophy problems, it's to have millions of AI-aided human scientists who follow their curiosity and become way more ambitious

We underestimate how much human potential gets crushed by the struggle to survive. Somewhere, there’s a genius working double shifts who hasn’t had the energy to create anything in months because they’re too fucking exhausted just trying to stay afloat.

I’m starting to get increasingly uncomfortable with the economics of AI as it is currently happening It seems fundamentally wrong that a small number of people with access to a huge amounts of VC money can vacuum up all the contributions of humanity, often paying nothing for it, then turn around and get enormously rich while the many people who put all the work into creating the training data get nothing I am generally pro-AI, but the way it is happening is seeming increasingly parasitic to me

We are really learning a lot about what it means to live regeneratively in the south of France. I just wrote this article to share a glimpse into our experiences in Tarn et Garonne through the last several days. Hope you enjoy it! substack.com/home/post/p-218…

We always get the argument that private companies are more efficient than government. Will that hold up if most of the tasks are done by ai? Will companies become redundant when the main question becomes: "how can we best provide good common services to inhabitants"?

Likely better to manage commons by cooperatives though, to maintain independence

If ai can create it end to end, you're not gonna be able to sell it That's almost definitionally true at this point, crazy some of you can't see that
